FC: The Save King Mariano Rivera

2 –As a boy in Panama he never dreamed that he would one day play for the New York Yankees. His first glove was an old milk gallon container. No one was there to really coach him on how to pitch. He learned to field and pitch from much older athletes. That told him to give up at the age of seven.

Little did he know that one day he would be playing for the New York Yankees. He was drafted by the Yankees in 1990. He made his major league debut in 1995. Mariano Rivera in his first ten years of pitching in the big leagues would surpass the all time save holder and set a new record.

Mariano Rivera became so good at closing games that when he came into the game it was like he was putting them to sleep. He then adopted the nickname sandman. The closer would end up saving 652 games before his retirement. More men have walked on the moon (12) than have gotten a hit against him in the post season(10).

Mariano had pitched for 19 years and the whole time that he pitched he was with the Yankees. Mariano was and still is a class act. He was loved by all in the world of baseball. He announced his retirement in the early half of this past season.

Mariano Rivera will be the last player ever to where the number 42. When the number was retired Mariano was still wearing it. He was allowed to where the jersey until he retired. Now that sandman is retired the number 42 is put to rest as well. Thank you Mo for the memories.
