FC: The Bird Family 2012
January | January brought our much anticipated ice rink. Charlie loved skating on the ice and having friends over to play a pick up game of hockey. Although, I think it was really a dream for Alex.
We spent our winter days painting, making valentine's, putting together puzzles and of course, Maggie found herself in some mischief.
We took our first trip to Key Lime Cove in January. The Bediz family joined us in the fun.
Charlie turned 5 this month! He wanted to celebrate his birthday with a lego theme party. At 5, you love riding your bike, playing hockey, building with your legos and watching Scooby-Doo.
On the day of your birthday, you invited your closest friends over to celebrate. We kicked the party off by building a Lego firetruck, then on to pin the number on the Legoman, followed by the ball and bucket toss game. Your dad also played chase outside with you and all of your friends.
We spent the weekend after your birthday celebrating with your Hauschilt cousins. We took everyone bowling and of course, ended the day with another Lego cake.
February also meant mommy's expanding belly showing, Nana coming to stay with us, many sleep-ins in mommy and daddy's bed and the both of you having fun in your rooms.
 March Grand Cayman
Pirates Cave & Rum Point Beach
We spent an afternoon at the Turtle Farm. You both loved watching Daddy pick up the turtles.
April Another month preparing for Baby Bird's arrival. Everyone helped get the nursery put together and both Charlie and Maggie painted photos for Baby Bird's room. We also took a trip to the Choo-Choo restaurant in Des Plaines. Charlie proclaimed this to be the best restaurant in the world. Meanwhile, Maggie asked me if God takes you to Disneyworld in heaven?
You both are very into creating a 'rock band' these days. Your favorite song to sing is the Scooby-Doo theme song and sometimes Charlie will bust out Fireworks by Katy Perry. It's all so cute to watch.
We spent Easter at Nana & Papa's with all of your cousins, aunts and uncles. We had our usual egg hunt in the yard.
On April 16, 2012 Charlie lost his first tooth. He was so brave and wiggled it for about a week, before it fell out on it's own. The tooth fairy brought you $5.00. Both Charlie and Maggie painted canvas art for Baby Bird's room. They turned out great. Maggie, you are still continuing to run around nude any chance you get.
Ballet class has become part of our Wednesday routine. You are all smiles as we walk into class. We even catch you at home practicing your moves and showing Charlie what you have learned.
This is your last year of preschool and it is already going by so fast. You are such a sweet boy who continues to make us laugh and smile daily. You have started to write strings of letters and read back to us what you have written.
 Preschool Graduation
We started our kick off to the summer with a to-do list. You both came up with the list all on your own. I love watching the both of you play these days.
I had a great Mother's Day. We headed to Millenium Park for a date to visit the Bean, walk across the Serpentine Bridge, a picnic and of course play in the fountain.
This was your first year of T-ball this year. You seemed to gradually start to like the sport a little more each week. | You used the T for the first game and after that you were hitting the ball directly from the coach.
There is never a dull moment these days in our house. We spend the days and weekend going to the pool, beach and playing in the sprinkler. Charlie, you were jumping off the "plank" by the end of the summer.
You amaze me with your excitement for ballet. You finished the spring session with a mini-recital. You were so poised and took every minute so seriously.
This was the first year Maggie and Mallory got to join us on the annual trip to Adventureland. Shon and Chace were so good with the girls and took them on all the rides. It was a fun day and I'm so glad we make it a priority to do it every year.
For Father's Day, Dad decided he wanted to go miniature golfing. We spent the morning golfing and then out for lunch followed by game night.
Maggie turns 3! We celebrated your birthday THREE times. You had a Mermaid party with your friends at the beach, Nana had a party for you and then we had a party with the Birds. Wow! You had a whirlwind three days. It was fun to watch you open gifts this year. You were so grateful and all smiles. We love you, Maggie Marie!
Mallory and you are such good friends. You are inseparable when we go to Nana's house. You both love the same things and play so well together.
Lake Geneva Getaway At the end of June, we took a quick trip to Lake Geneva and stayed at the Grand Geneva. It was such a nice getaway and none of us wanted to come home. We spent four days relaxing by the pool, taking a boat ride, going to the water park, eating ice cream and enjoying family time.
A boat ride around Lake Geneva was a fun ride for everyone. We finished the ride of course by having ice cream.
One of Charlie's highlights of the trip was getting to drive Dad's car. You were all giggles and were a little reckless.
This month was full of checkups for you, Maggie. You had your first eye exam, first trip to the dentist and your three year old check-up. You're in the 90% percentile for height! You were so brave at all of your appointments.
I can't tell you how proud Dad and I are of the both of you. You are so loving to each other and play with one another a lot these days. Your favorite game is, Guess Who. It's been a fun year watching the two of you become so close. I overhear the two of you always telling one another that you love each other.
We started the month off with a sibling tour at Evanston hospital. You both got to see the Labor and Delivery, baby nursery and a hospital room where I would be staying when I have Baby Bird. You also got to practice feeding babies and changing their diapers. I think this got you very excited for the arrival of your brother or sister. Daddy even surprised me this month with some beautiful flowers!
Hockey is still your favorite sport these days. You look forward to going and you have improved so much! I can't believe how well you can skate.
July was also a big month for you, Maggie. You got to go to work with Daddy for the first time. You were all smilies as you boarded the train!
We took our first trip to the Renaissance Faire in Bristol this month. You both were so excited and definitely want to go again next year.

August William Roy Edward made his arrival on July 30th! Maggie & Charlie are so excited to to be a big brother and sister.
William's first days were filled with adventure while showing home all of our favorite places. This month Maggie & Charlie decided they want to share a room. I wonder how long that will last?
Maggie has quite the party after she goes to bed. She spends at least an hour after bedtime playing in her room. When she does go to sleep, I love looking in her room to see what she's been up to. Usually the dolls have all been carefully placed in bed.
A walk along the lake was the perfect way to end some of our summer evenings. We even were able to catch a Northwestern Soccer game.
You each go to chose one activity to do on our last summer weekend. Charlie chose a visit to the Lego Store and Maggie wanted to take her first trip to The American Girl store.
Labor Day weekend we met Nana & Papa at a hotel while your daddy and I went to a wedding. You guys had a blast and William got to meet his Papa for the first time.
First Day of School September 4, 2012
What an emotional day....for mommy! Charlie was so excited but I cried all the way to school.
Even though you have decided not to take ballet classes anymore, you still try to dance gracefully around the house. Your routine lasts anywhere from 2 minutes to 10 minutes. You get so serious when performing!
Soccer is in full swing and while you are new to the sport, you seem to love it and have so much enthusiasm. You are often the one cheering on your team as you run to kick the ball!
Roasting marshmallows with the Bediz's is always something you both look forward to every fall. The evenings ends playing, ghosts in the graveyard!
