S: HOCKEY ROAD TRIPS 04-09
FC: Minnesota Wild Houston Aeros Hockey Road Trips 2004- 2009
Dallas Milwaukee Phoenix Boston Vancouver Calgary Edmonton LosAngeles Washington DC | The adventures and memories of the ever continuing pursuit of the game of hockey
Dallas Texas My 1st Wild Road Trip I went with Barb & Jason. We arrived and headed straight over to the infamous Grassy Knoll. The Book Depository picture was taken with my cell phone. | We spent the day drinking,, met some more friends and partied up until we went to the game. Barb & I continued on at the game and the fans weren't happy with some of us.
And Continued on after the game, shooting pool with the Christianson brothers until Bar Close.. Very lucky the cab showed up!!! | I seriously didn't think they'd kick their fans out for messing with us. Oh, Well.....
It was DEVASTING for me to even think that there was no Wild hockey ! How long was this going to last?? (Full season unfortunately). But HEY, we have an AHL team to follow and follow we did.. God Bless the Houston Aeros! 1ST ROAD TRIP Barb, Mick and myself | 2004-2005 The Walk-Out Season NO NHL HOCKEY
A very young Brent Burns | We were so excited to see some hockey but the young guys were no match for the NASTY playing Milwaukee Admirals. ICK! The movie Slap Shot had nothing on those guys.
2nd Aeros Road Trip Jan 2005 Lisa, Emily, Molly and Me | We did not find Milwaukee any more hospitable for the 2nd visit. The fans were extremely rude and vulgar | Not only to our players but to poor Emily & Molly who chose to sit CLOSE to the bench.
The Desk Manager was wrong. The Mall was closing when we got there. | We still had a good time in the hotel bar! | The room DID NOT have Queen beds! We made sure we had proof so we didn't have to pay for them.
YEAH! Houston Areo's come to the Xcel Center! Autograph session follows the game too! | Mikko Koivu | Josh Harding
Brent Burns signs for Emily | He said he was cold that's why the stocking cap. | Junior Lessard | Mark Cullen | Veilleux, Boogaard & Burns | Matt Foy & Mike Smith (future goalie extraordinaire)
My 2nd Wild Road Trip Phoenix Feb. 3-5, 2006 Barb & I were thrilled to be going some place HOT & Sunny!
At lunch, we saw Dwayne Roloson talking frantically on his cell phone. He was traded to Edmonton shortly after the road trip. | I walked inside during lunch and ran right into Manny Fernandez leaving the players lunch. I was so embarrassed at my looks that all I could say was "Hi Manny!" He smiled and said "Hi"
3rd Wild Road Trip March 8-10, 2007 Barb & I are on our way again. We took a tour of Fenway Park during the day and that was COLD but impressive. We got to the arena area early and hit a small "locals" bar and they welcomed us with open arms. Sadly it wasn't the same inside. We won and promptly after the siren rang, we were pelted with pop from the level above. GROSS! | Fenway Park Public Library
 Pre-Game | Post-Game | At Game
No Phil Kessel jerseys so I got Zdeno Chara's, since he's their Captian. Also we used to call him LURCH when he came to the Xcel. | Barb & I had a blast! She didn't remember the last portion of the evening starting with the fight at the pool table and the wheelchair women trying to steal my jersey.. It was fun at the time but scary once we thought it over the next day.
PRESEASON Game at the infamous Ralph Engelstad Arena. It's everything you've heard about and more!
Our seats were 1 row up from the bench. Being that close puts a whole new dimension on watching the game. It was fascinating to watch the lines change and how quickly the shift lasts. I gained a whole new respect for the players.
4th Wild Road Trip Vancouver Vancouver is the prettiest place we've traveled to so far. Barb & I immediately went over to Stanley Park & walked along the marina. The hotel is right on the water. INCREDIBLE VIEWS!!
They have cameras in the LOCKER ROOMS!! | Boogaard giving them the STARE DOWN. | WE LOVE | THEIR BEER SIPPIE CUPS!!!
Met a nice guy who was happy to take our picture. | WILD SCORE !!
The next day we had all day to explore. We walked back over to Stanley Park Island and went to the Aquarium. The jellyfish displays were the coolest. | Me under the whale sculpture at the Aquarium. | Tribute to Fallen Soldiers
All along the water front they are building for the 2010 Winter Olympics. | Then we walked back all along the marina up to the Gas Powered Clock. It the shopping district so it was a MUST SEE. | Waterfront view from our hotel room
1st thing on the list! Go walk over to the Space Needle to have a good look around. Barb took pictures on the glass floor but I wouldn't even get close to it! | 5th Trip Calgary Feb. 2009
Nice older gentleman took our picture. We are always meeting the nicest people when we travel in Canada! | A beautiful crisp sunny day in Prince's Island Park. It was COLD but we got out and about.
FLAME CENTRAL - PREGAME PARTY This is the ULTIMATE hockey party bar in the WORLD!! | So, we get there & get a drink but our food wasn't ready yet. So Barb & I go downstairs to explore. We ran into the Manager and I told him that this place is HOCKEY HEAVEN!! He said "Come on, follow me." And he walks straight thru the place and up onto the STAGE, waving us up, to follow him. Well, Barb & I thought for sure it was a trick. He was just so proud, he wanted to point out the whole place to us, at the best vantage point. It was AWESOME!!
Needless to say, when we got back upstairs, Natalie & Maria (from the WILD) were on us saying "Yeah, we're just chatting and we look downstairs and see you two UP ON THE STAGE!! What's up with that? TOO FUNNY!! Just goes to show you what complimenting and chatting up new people can do! | Flame Central Stage ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ | Me up in the balcony
The game sucked and we didn't win but that was probably for the best. The local fans are much nicer to you if your team isn't winning. But we met some more nice people there and it was funny. When we told them that we were traveling up to Edmonton the next day, to see another WILD game, they all felt they had to WARN US. They all said that the fans up there aren't nice AT ALL. It couldn't have been further from the truth. | I was extremely excited about my Jarome Iginla jersey.
Driving up from Calgary was 3 hours but it was fun. When the bus driver announced that we could see our hotel now, I was SHOCKED to see it was a CASTLE, well at least it looked like one. | THE FAIRMONT HOTEL MACDONALD | 6th Trip Edmonton Feb. 2009
But OMG it was COLD. Colder than I've ever been or ever plan to be AGAIN! And we never knew how cold it was because of that damn CELSIUS business!!
Joy Oh Joy! We got there in time for PRE-SKATE!! Clutterbuck was giving these young kids the "stink eye" because, every time Burns skated by, they said BURNS YOU SUCK! | Burns was tapping his stick over the glass and spraying them with ice. When I told them that he does that at home too, they were a little deflated.
I'm betting Rexall Place is the oldest working arena. It seemed ANCIENT! And I thought the Saddledome was OLD! | Another loss and this one was tough to swallow. We were leading and could have beat them. OMG we had nose bleed seats! But meet some really fun girls & guys sitting behind us. They said to always smile when we turn around to talk because they were warned to be nice to the WILD fans or they would be kicked OUT! One poor past-out guy was walked out and he wasn't even bothering any of us!!
Personal Road Trip Los Angeles with Emily Went to see the Wild play the L.A. Kings at The Staple Center in SUNNY CALIFORNIA!!!! | Me, Cos, Emily & Ken and it was great fun although we lost again! I'm getting just a bit paranoid about road trips. Am I a jinx?
Brent Burns left the game with a concussion. He will be out the rest of the season because of it.
7th Wild Road Trip Washington DC November 2009 This was such an exciting trip being in our Nation's Capitol! We had 3 days to take in as much as we could and constant rain didn't stop us. | White House - South Lawn
Capitol Building | Smithsonian Castle | Washington Monument
WOW! This town loves their hockey team! I've never seen such enthusiasm. I came all this way and Ovechkin didn't even play because he was hurt. I was SO disappointed. | I went up to Chuck Fletcher at the Pre-Game party and introduced myself. I told him I was impressed with what he's done with the team so far. He was very receptive and shook my hand for what seemed like 5 minutes!
There was a pledge drive for the player with the best mustache during the month of November. We spotted these guys (one was from MN) and tracked them down for a picture. | We got to watch the guys getting on the bus after the loss. Some were grumpy but some made the best of it. | Mikko stayed to chat, signed autographs, the longest than any other player! That's why he's the BEST!
Arlington Cemetery | Tomb of the Unknown Soldier | Justice Department
Lincoln Memorial | Words can't describe how PATRIOT I felt standing there! | Korean War Memorial | WWII Memorial
Ten Years of being a Season Ticket Holder for the WILD has taken me places I'd never venture to myself. Thanks to Barb, Maria, Natalie, Tawnya and everyone else that's traveled with me, they have all been an EXCEPTIONAL BLAST! HOCKEY RULES!! GO WILD!
