S: The Texture of Our Love
BC: And they lived happily ever after.
FC: The Texture of Our Love: Murmurings and remembering the beginning of us
I remember: falling off bikes, finding Dolly Parton strawberries, competitions of strawberry pies, soft kisses, heavy petting, ice cream dates, Chard on the top of a mountain, library lawns on hot nights, bonfires and BBQ's with friends, hikes at sunset, eating pizza at the north fork, reading side by side contently and thinking it was the sexist thing ever. | I had my eye on you for years. I first saw you in yoga class and thought "how cool that he does yoga and rides his bike". I didn't see you for years and saw you again when you reappeared at the art opening. The art on the walls was inspiring to look at but I enjoyed more looking into your eyes. In them I saw warmth, kindness, security and the possibility for adventure.
Sometimes- especially in the beginning I couldn't understand why you seemed content to just read alongside me in bed- or why you said yes to hiking with me, camping with me... doing anything with me. I would look at that space between your front teeth and think "this is a place I fit".
You wooed me in the most untraditional sense. You climbed (or attempted) mountains for me. | You also shouldered heavy loads and put up with some pretty difficult personalities.
Knowing me for only about a month or two you agreed to do one of the craziest things- to summit a mountain (Mt. Baker). I'm sure this is no what you expected love to bring. You were a trooper with shouldering your pack, getting little sleep and not enough snacks.
Spending time with you on the mountain made me realize your resilience that despite pain and discomfort you over come any issues. Plus.. who doesn't love the adventure of skinny dipping in a glacial lake and the great campground of Baker Lake?
I remember that Crater Lake was our first get away. What a cold weekend that was with snow in the mountains, and wind near the lake. We did tons of hiking and laid around in the tent staying warm.
We never made it to the island but the time we had on land was fun. It's a bummer it took till the last day to finally have sun. But on this trip one thing I discovered no matter what we did- a long car trip, camping or hiking with you everything was an adventure.
I remember: snow shoeing on quiet snow, dressing up for Halloween, biking on mountain roads in BC, eating apples and making you feel uncomfortable, red tulips as we rode by, wind whipping us all around on the beaches of CA, and soft grass beneath my back.
I remember: warm unexpected sun in AK, solstice parties and rolling in beer, zip lining in the forest, dancing on the shore to Al Green and ringing in the new year, not leaving the hotel room, braces buddies, weddings with Timbrero, and finding the perfect tree that fits the space of our arms.
Winter went by with a blur. You picked up snow shoeing rapidly quick. And blew me away when you got your own pair! | I remember New Years- our spontaneous trip. To the islands of Orcas for more than a dip. I can't wait for more New Year's of lip locking with you and dancing on beaches to our own tune.
Another summit attempt of Baker was called off- but a crew of thrill seekers went to BC Squamish instead. Rock climbing, biking and getting a tan- all in Logan's Hippy Van!
The Adventures we had this past summer just never seemed to stop. With a 36 hour car ride to Alaska with four of our other crazy friends. I swear the fun we have just never ends. I do wish a few things, that I remembered it more and didn't spend so much time in a tent or on a pillow trying to snore. I remember Hot Springs in BC (Laird), Skinny dippers, long car rides with all kinds of distractions
Toddling through Skagway, AK was fun for sure. Though the get away to Juneau, AK was a nice relief from all the tourists and crowds. It rained, it poured but with you I never got bored. Biking through the glaciers and puddling jumping to museums.
This summer (2010) was busy- less time for us to just backpack and hike. But we made it up to Excelsior Pass and also out to the coast of CA and Ashland OR so I could meet your parents. I admit looking back, so nervous to meet your folks was I.. and now that i have, I don't even know why!
Here it is.. at last. Maryann and Tim move in day (October 1st 2010). We were tired, we were hungry and cranky to boot, but it all got moved, and piled and eventually put away. I'm so happy you agreed to move in with me this day. I love living with you and it's been easier that I could imagine.
I love your playfulness and your creativity. You like to play dress up as much as I do and really know how to dress to impress. | I remember rocking the red wig a lot last year! Meanwhile you acquired your own collection of wigs and hats. Coloindor Man, and Spider Woman on Halloween 2009. Jaco and Matilda on Bikz in the Hood 2010.
Pumpkins we did it! I made one of the animals- aka the zoo. You made one of murder... yet another really scary night for me too! | Deadgar Allen Poe and Frida Kalho made quite the scene this year everywhere they went on Halloween 2010. Too bad you were too scary to make out with!
It's pretty obvious to me now, that it doesn't matter what we do. We meet minds in a way that I haven't before, my thrills, my passions you share and explore. I'm glad you came along and entered my life, a play mate, a best friend and a lover.
I look forward to whatever the future brings with you by my side. And have nothing but smiles and happiness remembering our last year (almost two!) and am glad to find my life has merged with you. I love you- happy first Christmas together- (in person) 2010. -Marz
