Religions controls government, priest hears from Gods. | Around 3000 B.C., the Sumerian's invented a system of writing with wedge-shaped symbols known as cuneiform. Mesopotamians city-states were always at war.
3: Mesopotamia located between the Tigris and Euphrates River. When these two rivers would flood they produced silt, a rich soil that allowed their crops to grow. Mesopotamian had limited natural resources and used irrigation. Plowing made farming easier.
4: Egypt is located along the Nile River. Egypt usually has a hot and dry climate that is surrounded by a desert. The Nile River flows south to north. The Nile provides fertile land and produces silt that any type of crop can grow in when the Nile overflows.
5: Pharaohs ruled as kings and were seen as God. The people of Egypt were polytheistic which meant they believed in more than one God. Sun God is one of the most important Gods. Hieroglyphics is an ancient Egyptian writing system in which pictures were used to represent ideas and sounds.
6: The people that lived in the Indus Valley had a strong central government. Their major buildings were in the center of the city. The cities were planned on a grid system. The Indus Valley people started the beginning of the Hindu culture.
7: Indus Valley is located between the Indus and Ganges Rivers. The Indus Valley experiences monsoons, seasonal winds that bring rain or wind. The Himalayas are located to the north north of the Indus Valley. | Those Who lived in the Indus Valley created a plumbing and sewage system. This system came in handy when the rivers would flood and cause minor damages.
8: The Chinese saw their culture as center of civilized world. The Mandate of Heaven was a ruler in China who had divine powers. In China family is central and their ancestors bring blessings or curses. The Chinese used bronze and iron works, silts, roads, and canals.
9: China is located between the Huang He and Yangtze Rivers. When these two rivers flood they leave behind loess, a fertile soil that allows almost any crop to grow in it. The Himalayas are located to the south of China and the Gobi desert is located to the north.
