FC: The Brain and Nervous System | By Michelle Fieland
1: I am planning on telling you everything that I know about the nervous system and the brain. I will explain the medulla oblangata, | all about nerve cells, the reflex machanism, the cerebrum, cerebellum, and the spinal cord.
2: The picture above is a nerve. But if you didn't notice that one is different than the other; because one has MS and on doesn't. MS is a disease that targets nerve cells and eventually brakes them down. From where ever the broken down nerve is the victim is paralyzed from that point down.
3: it does this because the nerves put feeling and movement to your muscles there for blocking the connection from your body to you brain. There is no way of mending the nerves to reverse this, except sometimes the connection isn't completely broken so you would regain movement.
4: The brain is a part of the nervous system and is the central "headquarters" of everything. The brain controls thought, movement, and senses. On the brain on the lowest point of the brain is the Medulla Oblangata. The Medulla Oblangata is the place where the brain is attached to the spine and spinal cord.
5: The Medulla Oblangata also controls thought feeling etc... If you were to drink alcohol or do drugs it damages your brain cells. Brain cells aren't replacable you are born with a certain amount and thats it no more and probably less. Your whole body is made of cells.
6: There are two types of cells. There are nerve cells and blood type of cells (come in more than just blood cells). The blood type of cells have two other types of cells in that type and they have nothing to do with nerves.
7: On each nerve cell there are dendrites axon and a cell wall. The dendrites are the little thing that stick out the top. The axon is the long thing in the middle. The cell wall is the thing up toward the top and is by the dendrites. A synapse also accures which is between nerve cells.
8: Synapse occurs in between the nerve cells. The synapse is a message carried down all the nerve cells to the brain an back. This happens all in less than a second. If you were to put your hand on a hot pan you would pull your hand away before you could even feel any pain. This happens because of reflex. The reflex tells you to not touch something or move away from a harmful thing. If you accidentally stub your toe you will pull away before you feel pain. There are also places on you body where if you hit it right you will involuntarily move it; for instance under your knee cap.
9: The cerebellum is a part of the brain that control muscles along with Motor movement and balance. It is a big part of muscle movement and reflex. The cerebrum is a different word for brain so its saying brain as a whole. The cerebrum cortex has white matter. It is not different from the brain but is a part of the brain that has white matter. There is white and gray matter and they control pathways in the brain.
10: The spinal cord is like a nerve that runs up and down your spine. The spinal cord connects to everything in your body with nerves. What happens is that your nerves pick up a message and send it through your body to your spinal cord then up to the brain and back to the original place within less than a second. The place that receives all of the messages first is the Medula Oblangata or the very bottom tip of the brain. For example of the spinal cord in motion is say you
11: a hot stove and the nerves say to pull back right away but the message is sent from your nerves into your spinal cord and back within less than a second but it doesn't really start hurting until the message is back.
