FC: Cate H. Ray K. mod 5/6 Book of Cells

The cell was first discovered by Robert Hooke in 1665. The first cell observed by Anton Van Leeuwenhoek in 1674. | A cell is defined as usually microscopic structure containing nuclear and cytoplasmic materials enclosed by some sort of wall, depending on the type of cell.

The cell on the top right is an animal cell, top left is a plant cell, bottom right is a eukaryotic cell, bottom left is a prokaryotic cell.

Eukaryotic cells | Any organism that has the basic structure and functions of a regular cell, but contains special organelles in the cytoplasm and uses an elaborate division of cells.

Prokaryote cell | Any cellular organism that does not contain a nuclear membrane and any organelles in the cytoplasm except ribosomes.

Inside a cell: -Mitochondria -nucleus -DNA -chromosomes -cell membrane -cell wall -chloroplast -centrioles -endoplasmic | -flagella -cilia -reticulum -vacuoles -cytoplasm -cytoskeleton -lysosomes -golgi apparatus -ribosomes

This is a picture of mitochondria.Mitochondria is an Organelle that helps in energy production.

Nucleus | Directs the growth, metabolism, and reproduction, as well as storage for DNA.

DNA | Deoxyribonucleic Acid, is where your genetic traits are found and passed down form your parents.

Chromosomes | Chromosomes contain the DNA of the cell and is where the genetic material can be found.

Cell membrane | Also known as the nuclear envelope, is a double membrane surrounding the cell.

Cell wall | The definite boundary of a cell, found in plant cells.

Flagella | A long appendage that serves a locomotive for sperm cells.

Cilia | Create rhythmic motions to ciliate liquids in animal tissue.

Chloroplast | Organelle found in plant cells that give the plant its green color and ability to perform photosynthesis.

Centrioles | Organelle that helps in mitosis.

Endoplasmic | responsible for the protein production and responsible for transporting the proteins to the golgi apparatus

Flagella | A long appendage that serves a locomotive for sperm cells.

Vacuoles | A fluid filled organelle in the cytoplasm.

Golgi Apparatus | Found in the cytoplasm and helps remove waste and is a transport system, probably for the wastes.

Rimbosomes | Act as the protein manufacturer of the cell.
