2: I am Where I'm From | I am from paint and steel, from saltine crackers and venison. I am from the olive green walls and rooms of different colors that range from bright blue to beige, the anger, the sadness, the unseen sorrow that exists in all places. I am from the fields, the open plain where deer graze. I am from dinner at Grandmother’s and tall and big footed, from David Parr and Lynn Cooper and Rhoades. I am from the forgetting and yet still always being on time. From going down yonder and if you think that’s funny you had better think again. I am from the church if there is some special occasion. Just another Sunday isn’t enough but a visit to Grandmother requires Sunday best (whatever you can find in terms of collar and khaki pants) and same goes for a trip to Grandpa’s. I'm from Henry County and god knows where dads parents came from I am from good old chili and cube steak. From traveling up to Canada in that old paint stained van and Sean tossin’ his cookies on the side of the road though we smelt that acidic substance for longer than a few seconds after. the all night drives through the mountains and the loud cries as ears popped infection from the young blonde boy named Sean. I am from Alabama to Canada to Texas. Mom has a business that was a gift of sorts, many hours spent driving from place to place, Grand daddy with the family reunions, and hours up at the lake picking blueberries and diving into nature made beauty these things I’m from are who I am.
3: Self Illustration | In life we must hide behind walls we make Self Image and self respect are walls we hide behind Thus they are things we make Your image is what you make it a mask to hide behind But how can others see you for what you are If you can make a mask look like whatever you want I make my masks to fit the situation and the reality of my life but others abuse The power they wield to bend people to them they are what they think is popular or makes friends I don't judge your mask for if we have self image We are all artists artists make what they feel and they don't judge that of others for those who create know the difficulty of others Life is an illustration and you are the artist Make what you feel and what you are Don't judge what i make for myself And don't copy what I do for my illustration describes me
4: The Smells We Smell | In my mother's kitchen we smell loves smell The smell of foods and baking and frying The moist smell of meat set to tenderize We smell the smell of a loving mother at work Food in boxes all the same From treats, meats to appetizer But only for those in the house to smell For those out side are none the wiser We smell the smell of the way things were A happy mom at work but sadness and work now over take her She does not Bake or cook or fry anymore The smells We loved We smell no more
