FC: Archetypes and Heroic Cycle Project 8 Mile By Matthew Rodriguez
1: 8 Mile is a movie based on the rappers real life. His name is Eminem. Throughout the movie B-Rabbit is pursuing his dream of becoming a famous rapper. he is living in the broke down neighborhood of 8 Mile. In the beginning of his story his friends and him go to a rap battle in a venue called the shelter. They have routine rap battles for the streets to claim the top dog in the game. He loses the first battle by choking in front of the whole streets of Detroit. he was embarrassed. He felt like giving up on rap battles. He is trying to get demo set up with a friend but him and his friend have major fallout when he caught him with his girlfriend. Then his ex-friend sides with his rival gang. Then B-Rabbit at the end proves himself by beating many different rappers and lastly the guy who beat him in the previous battle. He won and everyone was back on his side. | Synopsis
2: Archetypal Storyline: REVENGE Characteristics:Hero proves themselves by getting revenge and sometimes realizes that revenge is not the answer. | At the beginning B- Rabbit is booed off stage in the battle at the Shelter. He wants to pay back all the doubters who once made fun of him and who laughed at him. He also wants to pay back the guy who humiliated him named Poppa Doc. At the last and final battle once he grew the courage to face his fears. He beat Poppa Doc and got revenge by beating him and making him get choked up in front of the whole crowd and was booed off stage.
3: Jimmy "B-Rabbit" Smith Jr. Role In Archetype: The Hero | B- Rabbit is the hero because of what he does. At the beginning he is embarrassed by Poppa Doc in front of the whole audience in the Shelter. He striving to become a better rapper and in the process he has his friends there to support him. The whole storyline is following his life. He sacrifices his reputation once he loses in the beginning battle but at the end he has everyone who once doubted him on his side and help push him to fulfill his dream. He has obstacles to overcome and many other archetypes to encounter in 8 Mile.
4: Throughout the movie 8 Mile, Future is always motivating B- Rabbit to pursue his dream of becoming a rapper. he is always there to pull him out the dump when he feels lost and confused. He signs up B-Rabbit for rap battles even though He is scared after he choked on the first he encountered. He also helps B- Rabbit with his rivals. Future gives B-Rabbit wisdom with his family problems. He is also his best friend so he for sure looks out for B-Rabbit. | David "Future" Porter Archetype: The Mentor
5: Wink Archetype: The Threshold Guardian | Wink in 8 Mile starts out as a friend of B-Rabbit. He catches him having sex with B-Rabbits girl friend. they fight and their relationship basically ends. He gets B Rabbit | jumped by his rival gang Free World. He also was going to help him get a demo set up and give him connects to get his music on the radio. He also there when things go bad.
6: Alex is a shapeshifter in 8 Mile because she good and bad. she helps B- Rabbit through though times he couldn't through without her. she also questions his talent. She tell him about how her friends think of him but then it makes him more self conscience even though he denies it doesn't care they think of him. She also cheats on him with his friend | wink and causes their twos relationship to end. That is why i think she is a shapeshifter. | Alexandra "Alex" Lantourna Archetype: Sharpeshifter
7: The FreeWorld Gang Archetype: The Shadow | The FreeWorld Gang is the shadow because they are the villain of the movie. They all are out to give trouble to B-Rabbit. through out the movie there was numerous fight between 313 gang and the FreeWorld. Later after the falling out of wink, B Rabbit was jumped by the FreeWorld and beat him up pretty bad. Then he faced each one them in the battle leading up to the final battle wit Papa Doc.

9: The Hero Cycle: Call To Adventure | The call adventure for B- Rabbit was the first scene. He first threw up all over his sweater. He was in the the bathroom in the Shelter mimicking Mobb Deep's "Shook Ones." He was later called on Stage to rhyme. He won the coin toss and decided to elect his opponent Poppa Doc to go first. He went first and killed it. Then is was B- Rabbit's turn to go. The beat started then he held the mic to his mouth but no words came out. He choked in front of the whole audience and ran off the stage enraged. That was the call of adventure.
10: Helpers The helpers B- Rabbit has throughout his journey is Future, Cheddar Bob, DJ IZ, and Sol George. They help him find his true potential and succeed in his passion which is rapping.
11: Hero Cycle:Threshold Crossing | The threshold crossing is that when B- Rabbit moves in with his mother once him and his previous girl friend broke up after she said she was pregnant. He lived in his mothers trailer and he quit his job as a pizza boy. Plus his mother is dating a guy who he went to high school with so the tensions were high in the home.
12: Test/Allies and Enemies The test B-Rabbit faces is when he is on lunch at work.They are eating and suddenly a women starts to rap. Then a another rapper named Mike starts in and disses the women. This doesn't set in well with B-Rabbit and he jumps in and blows the crowds head away with what he says.
13: Supreme Test The supreme test B-Rabbit encounters is when he is in the final rap battle with Poppa Doc. There is many battles he has before this to be qualified to be in the final round and the funny thing is that he faces a lot of members from the Freeworld gang. He lost the coin toss and went first. He takes personal information about Poppa Doc and uses it against him. The whole is rooting for B-Rabbit because he showed to everyone that he had the talent and makes a few good punchlines. Poppa Doc eventually chokes once he goes. The whole crowd laughs and boos him off stage.
14: The reward B-Rabbit gets is the respect of his peers and the streets. He was the laughing stock of 8 Mile. Every one would talk about how he lost then he came back the next week and won. He had everyone rooting for him.So his reward was RESPECT! | The Reward
15: For the return, B-Rabbit wins the battle and heads out of the shelter. His friends want him to go out and party but he had someone covering his shift at work. So after that he starts to head back to work walking and that was the last scene in the movie | The Return
