3: 1902-1968 Born in Salinas, CA In the start of his career as a free lance writer, he failed.He started to be a well-known person after he published Tortilla Flat. After this, he moved on to more serious books such as: In Dubious Battle and Of Mice and Men. One of his most famous novels is Grapes of Wrath. Died on Dec. 20, 1968
5: Setting: Spanish Indian village on the coast. In La Paz, Mexico :A city town with stone grounds. In La Paz, Mexico also.
6: Juana is wife of Kino and Mother of Coyotito. Coyotito is son of Juana and Kino.
7: Kino is "husband" of Juana, father of Coyotito, and brother of Juan Thomas. Apolonia is wife of Juan Thomas and sister-in-law of Kino and Juana.
8: Chapter 1 Kino and Juana are a Hispanic-Indian couple who live in a small, poor town.They have a son named Coyotito.The son was bit by a scorpion.Juana decided to bring him to the doctor.The doctor wouldn't except Coyotito.Kino got mad and hit the gate.
9: Chapter 2 Juana and Kino needed money to pay the doctor. Coyotito's wound looked bad. The whole family went in a canoe together to look for a pearl they could sell. They found a gigantic pearl.
10: Chapter 3 The whole town found out about the pearl. The doctor comes to treat the baby, acting as if he didn't know about the pearl. He gives Coyotito two different medicines and "cured him". The priest comes and visits Kino also. Kino lists off what he will do with his money from the pearl.
11: Chapter 4 Kino and everyone else in the town went to sell his pearl. The pearl sellers tell him the pearl is only worth 1,500 pesos. He decides to go to the capital to sell his pearl.
12: Chpater 5 Kino followed Juana to the shore. She tries to throw the pearl into the shore but he catches her hand then smacks her in the face and kicks her in the side. After Kino starts walking back home, he is attacked, and he kills his attacker. When Kino and Juana finally walked home, they discovered there house was burning. They take shelter in Juan Thomas's house.
13: Chapter 6 Kino and Juana walk all night towards the capital. Finally they come to a clearing and settle down. Then, trackers come by. Kino gets scared, so he takes his family and runs. They find a cave and hide. Kino is scared for his family so he goes to kill the trackers. When he finally gets down to the trackers and goes to kill one of them, Coyotito starts crying. The tracker thinks he's a coyote baby so he shoots toward Coyotito. The shot ricochets off the cave wall and kills the baby. When Juana and Kino come home, Kino throws the pearl into the sea.
