Dedicated to Mom & Dad for taking us on such an amazing trip of a lifetime! | Sao Paulo -> Manaus -> Recife -> Rio de Janiero | Christmas 2010

"What a blessing it was to have the temple president attending the same ward as us that Sunday. It was so special to have the temple opened up for us to go inside and see everything. I think in that moment the whole trip was worth it for dad. He could've gone home happy just seeing the growth of the church since he was there. What a great start to our week!" | Sao Paulo | “Apparently in Brazil there are ‘in’ doors and ‘out’ doors on the buses. Also, it became apparent that in the Portuguese language you let people know they are going in the ‘out’ door by repeatedly shutting it on them!” | ~Dave | ~Lisa

”It was fun walking the Sao Paulo streets with dad as he reminisced about his time there. It’s cool to think that we might’ve walked the same streets or with the same people that dad did, 35 years ago.” | ~Thomas

"Playing basketball in the hotel was awesome! Lisa and me won even though they had the advantage. Like come on I got 2 bloody noses in the games!” | "The first pizzeria was delicious! But at the other place the cheese on the pizza was just like, 'Wait this stuff is edible, are you sure?” ~Emily | ~Emily

Manaus | "After a rainy boat ride it was so cool to turn the corner and see our tree-house hotel. We couldn't wait to get out of that boat and go explore!" | ~Tom

"I'll always remember when I got attacked by monkeys because Dave threw me that napkin that had pear slices in it. That was so funny!" ~Tia

"We spent a lot of time in that boat exploring the Amazon.. It was awesome having to travel everywhere by boat instead of car. We loved looking for wildlife and enjoying the amazing scenery all around us." ~Bryan

EXPLORE | “It was fun to learn all about the Amazon rain forest and animals. It wasn't fun seeing Thomas slip up and fall out of the tree, almost killing me.” ~Emily | “The coconut worms that all the boys ate were disgusting!” ~Tia

“It was really nice to see a real Amazon village. It got tiring after awhile though, walking around in the hot sun. Then, we got back to the boat and it wouldn’t work! So we hid in a fishing boat to get in the shade while the men fixed the engine. We were all really hot and sun burnt, but they saved lunch for us.” ~Tia

“It was cool to finally find the acai berries that I was hoping to see, and I even cooler that I had to climb to the top of a palm tree to get them.” ~Tom

"Piranha fishing was so much fun! I remember that me and Lisa each caught 1 and Bryan and Dave caught like 11.....that wasn't fair, but oh well." ~Tia | "I couldn't believe we were actually on the Amazon River fishing for piranhas! I'm glad the boys were there to put the cow heart meat on my hooks for me. Those fish were just too quick!" | ~Lisa

“The way our guide jumped in the river landing belly down on a crocodile, we thought he’d bring up some kind of monster! We were surprised when he came up out of the water holding a cute little 2-footer.” | ~Dave

Recife | "I liked the village of Porto de Galinhas cause of all the cute little chicken statues around town Funny, so many chickens around but we had fish for lunch." | ~Emily

"It was great sitting around as a family and singing Christmas songs together. As usual, I knew who everybody had for our Secret Santa gifts. I loved watching Emily relieve her itchy feet with the cool soda and beer cans from the mini-fridge." | ~Lisa

“There was this one guy that was trying to play basketball with our family. It looked like he was running around in his underwear and he didn’t speak any English! Plus, Emily kept jumping off the side like a flying squirrel attacking everyone. It was so much fun!” ~Tia

"I loved playing 3-flies-up because we had the whole beach to ourselves! We all got a little beat up that day, but it sure was fun and we got some great pictures from it." ~Lisa

Rio de Janeiro | "What i really love the most about when we travel is all the transit well we all get along and have fun when we are rushing through the airport or piled into a shuttle van or taxi." | ~Bryan

“The sun was warm, the view was amazing, the beach was beautiful, the waves were...turbulent. They were fun, but being treated like a tumbled shirt in a washer can only be fun for so long. I had water plugging up my sinuses for 1 1/2 days!” ~Dave | “Dave and I spent forever (it seemed) bodysurfing. We were riding those waves pretty well!” ~Tom

~Lisa | "What an amazing Christmas dinner at the best Churruscaria in Rio! Tia found sushi, but I concentrated all my efforts on those BBQ ribs. I can still taste them!" | Nao | "I will never forget that Roberto Carlos concert on the beach, when we were walking through the millions of people and all together they started swaying and singing. Then we got to watch more from the top floor of our hotel." | Sim | ~Bryan | "We feared for our lives every time we split up and got in | with a crazy taxi driver. But we somehow always got where we wanted to go." | ~Bryan

“I think I finally realized how similar Portuguese is to Martian when I sat in priesthood for an hour not understanding a word. Even so, the Spirit was very strong and easy to feel among the Saints in Brazil.” | ~Dave | "I felt like I was on top of the world when we were up in the clouds by the Christ statue, How they got that statue there amazes me, but what an amazing view of the beautiful city!" | ~Bryan

WE LOVE YOU!!! | We have so many wonderful memories from this trip. We'll never forget it!
