99: The first thing I would like to say is “thanks to everyone for being here on this special day.” It means so much to me and Jenifer and especially to Brianna and Judd. Let’s go back twenty four years ago when my wife Jenifer was pregnant and the doctors told us we were going to have a little boy. I was all fired up thinking I’m going to have a son to play baseball, football, and golf with. Jenifer and I even had a name for our future son, “Brock Burns All American”. Not sure what happened, but my wife gave birth to a beautiful little girl. Now, when I look back it seems like yesterday that Brianna and I were playing on the floor with me wearing earrings, necklace, bracelet, and trying to beat her in a little game called “Pretty -Pretty Princess”. Now if you have ever played this game at the end when you collect all the pieces.the winner gets to wear the crown. I would win now and then and Brianna would be a little upset at me until I put the crown on and she’d laugh and say, “Let’s play again Daddy”. She won most of the time, not because she was better than me no way but because she was Daddy’s little girl. As Brianna was growing up, she was always the cutest little thing, dressed to kill, good grades, and always the sweetest little girl. We always made sure she was active doing something. She played soccer, she was in dance, she was a pee-wee football cheerleader, but most of all she was a swimmer. All these activities kept me a little closer to my daughter. When she was in soccer – I would referee the games, when she was a pee-wee cheerleader – I announced the games, when she was swimming – I would usually be a timer. After a while, everything was about swimming. Practices every night and swim meets on week-ends. Do you know what happens when you see your little girl grow up most of her life in a bathing suit? This is kind of an awkward thing as father seeing your daughter hang out with boys in a bathing suit. And then there was when she came to me wanting her belly button pierced. As a father I don’t want to give the boys anything else to look at. But like everything else eventually my little girl got what she wanted. One day her junior year in high school Bri came home from school and said she was going out with a boy named Judd. My response was, Judd “the animal” Steele? She was shocked that I remembered him from pee wee football. As time went on she talked about Judd but nothing that sounded serious enough to worry about. I would see Judd every couple of weeks but most of his time he was a playing hockey for Beavercreek. I was glad because the discussion at our house is where is Brianna going to college? This drug out for a long time, but what scared us most was Brianna was talking about going to Eastern Kentucky. The same place Judd was going to go and play hockey. I didn’t like this situation and we tried to recommend other school options. We went on several college visits. Finally, she decided on the University of Dayton. This was great my little girl is right down the road and mom and I can keep an eye on her. Judd is in Kentucky and her education will continue. Well Brianna and Judd continue to see each other every few weekends. This was fine for a long while until Judd decided he wanted to go to Embry Riddle in Florida to train to become a commercial pilot. I personally thought this was probably doing them in as a couple. I was wrong. They continued to talk, Brianna continued her studies at U.D. and Judd was finishing at Embry Riddle. Brianna starts a co-op job at WPAFB and continues at UD, but now Judd wants to go to the University of Alaska. Brianna wasn’t happy but Judd found out that it would be 6 or 7 years before they would hire a commercial pilot, so now he wanted to go to Univ. of Alaska to get a different degree and become an Air Traffic Controller. Actually I was bummed too because I had envisioned Judd flying Jenifer and I all over the country and even flying my golf buddies to different out of state courses. Judd did go to the University of Alaska and graduated top of his class. Brianna graduated from UD and then earned her masters from the University of Maryland. Through it all thankfully they remained together. In closing, I would like to say that my little girl who I played Pretty Pretty Princess with 20 years ago in my eyes is a princess today. She has found her Prince in Judd “the animal” Steele and Jenifer and I hope they live together happily ever after...
