BC: Cheers to New Beginnings...
FC: January 2014 Christian & Laarni A Love Story
Alex met Kelly at a friend's wedding. Their eyes met during the ceremony, later that evening Alex summoned the courage to ask Kelly to dance. Little did he know what song was about to play, they danced the night away to baby got back and the rest was history. | "And when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it." ~ Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist
The MMK-worthy romantic-comedy, which leads this couple to where they are now started in winter of 2010. A young hopeless romantic named Christian was "single and definitely looking" for more than two years because his dating game was as terrible as a nerdy high schooler looking for a prom date.
Arnie just arrived in the U.S. a few weeks before and was starting to pursue her career as a nurse. She lived in San Diego, and since she was new in America and homesick, spent a lot of time on Facebook. As Christian browsed his Facebook newsfeed, he stumbled upon a picture of a pretty woman with big sunglasses and boots, with her tongue sticking out. "Hmmm... Laarni Abaya got really hot!", he said, remembering his elementary school classmate in Divine Child Academy.
"Oh look, she's in America! But she's so far. She's in California." The simple fact that Christian is 3,000 miles away from his prospective victim made him sad. Regardless, he picked his chin up and mustered up the courage to comment on her status. They went back and forth, and their conversation lead to him asking "What is going to be your wedding song?" and the rest is history.
Bride getting ready photos | Late night conversations and Skype calls eventually lead to Christian asking Arnie to be his girlfriend on his birthday. He knew that she could not shut down the birthday boy during his special day, so they eventually became an item. June 11, 2010
A month later Christian flew Arnie to New Jersey where they met each other again after ten years, and spent a week with Christian's family in North Carolina.
THE JOURNEY They embarked on a journey that most people could not imagine was worth the risk: a long-distance relationship. They faced many speedbumps along the way such as Arnie taking the nursing board,, which added to the list of other obstacles like the 3-hour time difference and busy work schedules
However, they both agreed that there is an upside to a long-distance relationship: the communication | Their late night talks and countless text messages built the foundation for their relationship. They discussed their dreams, aspirations, and the type of life they wanted to live
Communicate | They shared jokes, stories, tears and laughters. They fought and talked things out. They got to know each other better and deeper. And still getting to know each other day-by-day.
"What day is it? And in what month? This clock never seemed so alive." -Lifehouse
They shared sacrifices and risks too. The movie is not over yet, After two years of being apart but being a couple, they made the biggest risk they ever did yet for their relationship. They vowed to legally become a couple in Long Beach, California. It was not a big celebration since not all their families were aware of it, but the reasons and chances were in their favor; and the best thing to do was to take that chance, that one thing they both agreed that would make the most significant change on both their lives as individuals and as one. 17: Arnie then moved to New Jersey after three months to start her life with Christian as her partner.
The long awaited journey for Christian and Laarni has begun. They are now together. Starting a new life with each other was not an easy task, but they expected it that way -- and it's worth it. It's worth the risk. Arnie has started to move forward with her career in an unfamiliar place with people she just recently met; Christian became her guidance and confidante. Independent she was in California, Laarni is now in a new place, leading a new life with somebody to share her journey with. Christian, on the other hand, became the breadwinner of a small family of two. For nine months and being the only one working, he provided enough food, shelter and necessities for them. Because of this new role, he discovered new things, great things he never thought he can do and become. Not children anymore, they were building a family of their own. Starting small, inch-by-inch, they achieved goals and made new ones as days passed by. Being together, they were becoming different people. But to them, maybe this is "growing up". Winter cold without heat; bills and more bills; new responsibilities and failures - they've got each other's backs. As long as they had one another, everything fell into place. With the Lord's guidance and support of family and friends, they overcame the obstacles that came their way.
I got your back, you got mine.
In June 2013, Arnie finally scored a nursing job with the help of Christian's friend. The timing was perfect because it allowed them to save up for their next important step. They wanted to share their most special moment to their families and close friends. Having their parents' presence was vital in strengthening their relationship as couple, so they decided that the wedding was to be held in the Philippines. Finally, they faced each other's families and broke the news that they will both stand in front of God to vow to be together for a lifetime.
Six months of preparation for the wedding went by very fast. They were too busy to even be excited about it. They were going back home! IT'S MORE FUN IN THE PHILIPPINES! January 07, 2014 Transfiguration Chapel Caleruega
