FC: Tornado July 24,2010 Chautauqua Lake Estates
2: A flash was seen on the west side of Lake Chautauqua as the twister avulsed power lines in Mayville, NY.
3: The tornado was headed in our direction. We moved to the laundry room floor. | As the funnel cloud approached land, it turned south before moving due east and ascending the hill.
4: Despite considerable destruction, no loss of life or significant injuries occurred.
6: The Dewittville Fire Department responded immediately to assure the safety of CLE residents. They promptly turned off all utilities and evacuated all residents from the damaged buildings.
9: The National Weather Service issued fair warning at about 4:00 p.m. The tornado, an EF-2 storm, had winds clocked at 125mph. It's destructive path was initiated at 4:40 p.m. The tornado's path length was 6.5 miles and it's maximum width was 150 yards. Several funnel clouds were cited in Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties in a one and a half hour time period.
