FC: Dan & Brian
Dear Birth Parents, We can only imagine what a big decision you are about to make and we wanted to say that we really admire your courage. We are excited about starting our own family and providing a loving and caring home to a child. Also, we hope that through this book you will get to know us and see that we are a good match for you and for what you are looking for in an adoptive family. Finally, we also wanted to thank you in advance for considering us. So, who are we? We are Brian and Dan. We have great jobs, own our home, and are financially stable. Brian is a Registered Nurse and is the clinical nurse manager of a cardiology clinic. He was inspired to become a nurse by his grandmother and great grandmother and has a strong desire to help sick people and try to make them feel better. Brian finds his career challenging but enjoys it because he gets to see new patients each day and he tries to help them in any way he can. Dan is a University administrator, working with undergraduate college students. He loves the work he does with college students; they are fun and definitely keep him on his toes. Dan has a Bachelors degree in biology and chemistry, a Masters degree in guidance and counseling, and is currently working on his Doctorate degree in higher education. Brian and Dan have been together for almost 8 years and we have a lot in common. We are a good match for each other – we balance each other. Dan is a thinker (logical and a planner) and Brian is a feeler (sensitive and caring). We each bring different strengths to our relationship. We laugh and have fun together – that was one of the first things that attracted us to each other. We also love good food and traveling and are often busy with various home improvement projects. Our latest home project has been getting the baby’s nursery ready. Currently, our family is the two of us and our dog Harley and cat Phoenix. They are extremely friendly and get along really well. Together we own a 3 bedroom house that is located across the street from a great public park with a lake and gazebo, a children’s playground, and an outdoor city pool. You’ll see the pictures later in this book. Also, we have great extended family and friends who are very supportive of us starting our own family. Dan’s family lives in Wisconsin and Virginia and Brian’s family lives in Northern New York – all are very excited to welcome the newest member to the crew. Dan is the youngest in his family, with an older brother and sister and Brian is a middle child, sandwiched between two sisters. Combined, we have 8 nieces and nephews and they are very excited to have a new cousin to play with. We know that starting a family will be a big change in our lives, but we just can’t picture our lives together without a child, without a family, without grandkids (some day) to come visit us when we are retired. We are so excited to open our hearts to a child and offer them a loving home. Things that are important to us as we think about raising a family are teaching the child to be responsible, hardworking, and to grow up to be a kind and caring person. Good health and a solid education are really important to us as well (as evident by our jobs). We know being parents is not always going to be an easy job, but we feel very confident that we will be able to provide a loving, safe, and happy home. We hope you will enjoy getting to know us and our family as you look through this book and that it helps you make this difficult, but courageous decision. With our deepest regards,

The 8 cousins are especially excited to have someone new to play with! | I hear that you guys are in the process of adopting a child. If you guys do then that would be my cousin which I'm super excited about. I really want to know if it's a girl, because we could do so much with her. If it's a boy we could still do stuff with him, but he probably wouldn't want to play with dolls. I'm also excited because then that's one more cousin for me to play with when you guys come to visit. So, I just wanted to let you know how excited I was about a new boy or girl cousin. Thank you and hope to see the child soon if it works out. Sincerely, Your niece Marissa Bigelow | I heard that you may receive a child. I can't wait to see the room you have decorated for the child. The child would be my cousin. Getting a cousin would add some oomph to the family. By "adding oomph" I mean someone new in the family. I am super excited to get a new cousin. Even though the child will be younger than 13 years of age, I will still enjoy him or her. We can play games together when we visit. We can go to the park next to your house or we can go to the park next to my house. The child and I can go and see the animals at my house. When the child gets older maybe we can go shopping at the mall, especially if its a girl. I am really excited to be getting a new cousin. Sincerely, Sadie Bigelow
Dear Cousin, I hope you will come and live with my two Uncles, Danny and Brian. I know that if you do, they will try and make your childhood the best it can be. I know this because anytime I'm with them, I have a great time. Best Wishes, Riley | Hello, welcome to our family. If you do decide to pick us, we would welcome you with open arms. Love, Hayden
Our friends are excited for us to start a family...yay for babysitters! | Our Friends
Brian as a baby | Dan as a baby | Brian was a very happy baby and a very well behaved child. He loved strawberries, getting books read to him at bedtime, and his pet parakeet named "Lover boy" | Dan was also a happy baby and loved bath time. He also loved cows and one of his first words was "cow." Apparently (looking at this photo) he liked clowns too, although now he finds clowns to be a little scary.
