FC: de Vries Disney Vacation September 7 - 14, 2011
Disney Vacation 2011 Mom and Dad de Vries wanted to take everyone to Walt Disney World for a long time. They patiently waited for the grandkids to get big enough to remember the trip. Finally, 2011 was the year. After flights were booked, house rented, rental car gotten, and groceries bought, it was finally time to leave. On Labor Day, Grandma and Grandpa took off in their car to drive through tornado's and lots of rain to finally arrive at Walt Disney World. Wednesday, Sept. 7th, the rest of us went to O'Hare airport, in Chicago, to board our flight to take down to the famous Walt Disney World. There was a lot of excitement as this was the first airplane ride the grandkids could remember. We arrived safely in Florida and were finally united as a family to start this great adventure. The following pages will tell some of that adventure, but there are plenty of memories that will live on in our heads that just can not be shown in photos, such as the extreme heat, Rebekah remaining tough though extremely pregnant, dad weaving across the roads as another vehicle is trying to follow him, Nick's back being thrown out, tiredness from long days in the parks, Lisa getting silly in the pool, Mom getting soaked on the Kali River Rapids, and how on the last day we just didn't get to visit the wheelchair rental station and the ticket booths operators as we left the parks for the last time! But what you will see is the wonderful vacation we had as a family spending time together. Thanks for the wonderful trip Mom and Dad!!
 Disney World or Bust!
On Tuesday night, Sept. 6, the Applegate's and de Vries' met at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare to sleep before our big trip. The cousins were so excited to finally see each other and go find Mickey and Minnie Mouse! | Wednesday morning, Sept. 7, we flew down to Florida. Ready to begin our big adventure!
Here is the house that we stayed at for the week. It had an amazing pool and hot tub, that we spent many hours in. Six bedrooms and four bathrooms, not to mention living room, family room, kitchen and dining area.
Where is the first stop on this great adventure? Of course, McDonalds!! Then is was off to spend the rest of the day swimming.
After a long day of travel, and swimming, the kids had one last surprise for the day, Mickey and Minnie straws from Grandpa and Grandma to use on their trip. Then it was dinner time and off to bed so we would be ready to visit the Magic Kingdom in the morning.
Thursday morning, getting ready for the big day! Making lunches and finding the Mickey's and Minnie's to take to the park. We started the day going to Chef Mickey's breakfast to eat and meet all the characters. Then it was off to the Magic Kingdom for a fun-filled day of rides, heat, parades and ending it all with the fireworks started by Tinkerbell.
Chef Mickey's Breakfast We arrived at the Contemporary Hotel around 8:30am to have some breakfast and meet a lot of characters. The kids had a great time meeting, hugging and getting the signatures of all the original Disney Characters.
By monorail and boat, we finally made it out of the Contemporary Hotel and to the Magic Kingdom for a day filled with magic!
 Day 1 in the parks
Entering into our 1st Park - Magic Kingdom | When we first entered the park, there was a parade with lots of people. The kids had fun dancing through the streets of the Magic Kingdom.
 Beautiful Castle Views!
Teacups, Dumbo, Carousel, and more. Oooh, so much more!!
It's a Small World, Aladdin's Flying Carpets, Mickey's PhilharMagic, Jungle Cruise, Laugh Floor, and more. Soooo much more!!!
After our snacks, we went to Tomorrow Land. We visited the Laugh Floor, Buzz Lightyear, Space Mountain, among other rides, such as the People Mover. | After an already very long day, a short nap was needed. Of course this was before dinner, the Electric Parade and fireworks happening yet that evening!!
After a wonderful day at the Magic Kingdom, we were able to end it with the Electric Parade, Photo/Light show on the castle and fireworks started by Tinkerbell flying from the Castle. What a great first day!
 Day 2 in the parks
First ride of the day was the Kilimanjaro Safari.
After the Safari, we were able to catch "The Lion King" show. It was fantastic, with all the singers, dancers and acrobatics. Following the show we saw our first Characters for the day, Terk, Pocahontas, Baloo, and King Louie.
On our way to lunch at the Animal Kingdom, the kids found some neat fish to look at. | After lunch it was off to tackle Everest, Bugs Life, Dinosaur rides and the Kali River Rapids.
We celebrated Isaac's 6th Birthday while we were in Florida. | After some presents it was off to the pool! We went swimming every afternoon after the parks.
 Day 3 in the parks
The beginning of our day at Epcot! | The 1st ride of the day was Soarin, and everyone loved it!
We had a lot of fun going through the Nemo exhibits, checking out the Imagination Pavilion and riding the Test Track! We stayed relatively "cool" this day, since a lot of our activities were inside.
After Epcot, we headed to Downtown Disney to have dinner at the Rainforest Cafe and check out the Lego Store.
After multiple parks, tiredness started to set in. It was difficult getting going in the morning. But by the time we were on our way to the park, excitement had set in!
 Day 4 in the parks
Hollywood Studios was a lot of fun, but extremely hot!! This was the only day where the heat was almost unbearable. | We started the day by doing some coloring and musical games while waiting for the Ariel show to begin. After Ariel, we went to the Star Wars training and ride, Ben's personal favorite of the day.
We went to go see the 3-D Muppet show. After that it was onto lunch, Toy Story Mania and then the boys and girls split up. The boys went to go see the Indiana Jones Stunt show, while the girls went to The Beauty and The Beast show.
 Day 5 in the parks
Today we were back in Epcot to visit the countries. We were so hot that we started the day by going through the Splash Pad and misters!
We visited many different countries that day. It was nice strolling around. The kids even got to color Duffy, the bear, in Japan.
While some hugged and talked with the Princess's and Mickey's Bear throughout the Lands, others in our group found time to rest and splash in some cool water.
We ended our day at Epcot by taking a boat ride through Mexico and one final ride on Spaceship Earth in the golf ball. Once home again, the kids had a great time building a huge fort!
 Day 6 in the parks
 Main Street, Magic Kingdom
Today was a day for riding all our favorite rides over again. It was a great day, especially with the camel spitting on us!
What a way to end our trip to Walt Disney World! After a great day of riding rides, we watched the Celebration Parade on Main Street while having ice cream, seeing all the Characters one last time!!
Oops, we didn't end the day with the parade! We found the Princesses on our way out of the park. This made the girls day! Of course Grandpa had to join into this photo when the girls pointed him as the "beast" when asked by Belle whom that would be?
Finally the time came to say goodbye to Disney and each other. Although no longer at the parks, and utterly exhausted, we will always have the memories of the de Vries family trip to Disney World 2011!
