3: Secretary of the Interior, Sally Jewel She was sworn in as the 51st Secretary of the Interior on April 12, 2013 As Secretary of the Interior, she oversees nearly 20% of the nation's land including National Parks, National Wildlife Refuges, and other public lands. Her department is responsible for overseeing the responsible development of conventional and renewable energy supplies on public lands and upholds trust agreements to the 566 federally recognized American Indian tribes and Alaskan Natives.
