1: Jessica and Bill with Marisol and Matthew at Jessica's brother's wedding | Hello! We are Bill and Jessica, along with our kids Matthew and Marisol, and we are excited to introduce you to our family. Thank you for taking the time to look through this book and learning more about us. We know that you have dreams for your child. We hope that you will see, in our family, a place where those dreams will be realized.
2: Bill is naturally good with kids and loves spending time with children. He teaches Sunday School for 3-year-olds, where he loves to work with kids and help them to grow and learn. I also love watching Bill be a daddy. He is amazing – gentle, patient and encouraging. He is also super fun – able to come up with fun games or stories on a moment’s notice. | About Bill (By Jessica) | Bill leads worship at our church and has a beautiful voice | Bill is my best friend. He’s a great listener, compassionate, kind and gentle. He knows me better than anyone else and I know without a doubt that he will love me forever. He is constantly striving to be a better person and to grow in his relationship with God. Bill works as a manager for a non-profit financial | counseling agency and his job offers him an incredible amount of flexibility that has blessed our family immensely. He finds his job very rewarding and is a hard worker.
3: About Jessica (By Bill) | Jessica has started to learn cake decorating and loves to make special cakes for the kids (Matthew's birthday cake below) | meets in our home. Jessica has so much to offer children and continues to be changed and grown | Jessica is a bright, talented, and caring person. She is a wonderful | mother - living out her love for us every day, often putting our needs before her own. Her post-graduate degree focused on helping children to learn and succeed. Now that she stays home full-time, she has turned her talents to helping our kids thrive and making our home a supportive environment for them. She participates in a weekly women's Bible study and helps to lead our church small group that | into the woman God made her to be.
4: Our Journey | Out for dinner on our anniversary | In Antigua, Guatemala | Bill and I met in college through a dorm Bible study that I led. As we got to know each other, we became best friends. We began dating, were engaged 6 months later, and were married in June 2000. Over 10 years later, we are still best friends! | On one of our first dates, we talked about how much we wanted to have a family and how both of us knew that we wanted to adopt someday. After several years of marriage, we discovered that we would not be able to conceive, even with a doctor’s help. After a lot of thought and prayer, we | During both adoptions, we were able to move to Guatemala and care for the children during the final stages of the adoption. These times in Guatemala were an amazing experience for our family! We will forever feel connected with the country of their birth. We regularly tell the | children the amazing story of their adoptions, and talk often of the people in Guatemala who love them. | Jessica's parents came to Guatemala during Marisol's adoption | decided to adopt our first child from Guatemala, a beautiful boy named Matthew. Two years later, we completed our second adoption from Guatemala, our sweet girl, Marisol. We have two wonderful children whom we love with our whole hearts.
5: Our kids | About Matthew | At the beach, one of our favorite places to be in the summer! | Getting ready to make Christmas cookies! | Playing "peek" around a tree at the 4th of July festival in our village | Swinging on the playset in the backyard, her favorite! | About Marisol | Matthew is our sweet, sensitive, intelligent, energetic 5 yr. old. He loves dinosaurs, super heroes, and turtles. Matthew takes his role as "big brother very seriously. He loves going to school, making projects is his favorite thing! | Marisol is our energetic, spunky 3 yr old. She wants to everything her brother does. She loves singing and gymnastics (and wants to try lots of other things too!). She loves to tell jokes and has the best belly laugh! Marisol can't wait to start school and loves going to Sunday school.! | Matthew and Marisol are about as close as a brother and sister can be. They are best friends! Both are super excited to have a new brother or sister to play with.
6: Parenting | mm | mmm | nnn | * We want our children to feel safe and loved. We love learning about their skills, talents and interests, and we do all we can to encourage them to explore them. * We want them to feel confident in themselves, as the wonderful people God created them to be. * We have high expectations for our children’s behavior and try to allow natural consequences whenever possible. Our kids have age-appropriate responsibilities around the house. * It’s very important to us that our children show kindness and respect for others. We have encouraged our kids to be very empathetic and compassionate. * Matthew and Marisol are very dear friends, and our hope that this will last through to adulthood. They are very excited to have a little brother or sister to share their lives with! | We have always been open with out kids about how they came to our family. Because they were adopted internationally, their adoptions are closed, but we will help our children find their Guatemalan families when they are ready. We are comfortable with either an open or closed adoption for our next child. We think it is very important for our children to know about all of the people in their lives who love them.
7: Some of our favorite traditions... * Going apple picking every fall * Going to the State Fair! * Trick-or-treating at the zoo * Pizza night on Fridays | Every night we snuggle up on our bed for books before we say good-night. It's Jessica's favorite part of the day! | Family Time | As our family has continued to grow, so has the amount of fun that we have! We love to spend time together as a family. We have season passes to the zoo and the children’s museum, and visit both regularly. We also regularly visit the Milwaukee Public Museum, which the kids really enjoy. We live close to several parks, as well as a nature preserve and a small lake. As a family, we go on “adventure walks” and spend time at the beach. We also love being at home together, where we play games, do puzzles, play with play dough and make art projects. | Going swimming with Daddy | Making an art project at home
8: Our Home and Community | We live in a small village in suburban Milwaukee. Our home has plenty of living space with four bedrooms, a large yard and a play set that our kids love! Our neighborhood is quiet, safe and has lots of families. We live just blocks from the elementary school, and our community has a very good school system. We love | walking to school with Matthew, as well as making extra trips to the school playground! Our community has many festivals and activities that take place year-round. The 4th of July, Halloween, and the Christmas Tree Lighting celebrations have been some of our favorites. Because we live near Milwaukee, we are also able to take advantage of all that the "big city" has to offer, like museums, baseball games, and larger festivals. We also love living so close to Lake Michigan, we love playing at the beach in the summer! | Our church family has been a very important part of our lives during the 8 years we’ve lived in Milwaukee. We are members of a non-denominational Christian church that meets in Milwaukee and is committed to being a multi-racial, multi-national church. Our church is very involved in serving the needs of the city and in supporting needs around the world. In our family, church is not about “being religious” – it is about regularly asking God to change us from the inside out, and helping us to be like Jesus.

We live within driving distance of all of our extended family, and we make it a priority visit them regularly. Our kids love spending time with their grandparents, aunties, uncles, and cousins!
