FC: Bat Mitzvah | of Emma Gillian Mendenhall | July 2, 2011 | The Torah is a tree of life to those who hold it fast, and all who cling to it find happiness.
1: As our early morning ticked by, Emma was dressed, pressed, styled and smoothed while the boys stayed out of the way! Fun to have a houseful of helpful cousins!
2: Emma didn't appear nervous, but, rather, quite gracious about the intense activity and house-guest presence!
3: What a smile! Emma's braces came off just two weeks ago!
4: Hear, O Israel: the Lord is our God, the Lord is One!

8: Temple Emanu-El is a friendly congregation with an older demographic. The youth education program is small, and your Bat Mitzvah is one of the first in quite a few years. | In the months leading up to this day, you've been very involved in temple; participating in Shabbat services and being a good sport in Hebrew School! | Everyone is very excited for you!

13: As we teach, we learn. | Emma and Rabbi Michael Herzbrun have developed a relationship over the past year. Mostly they have e-mail discussions of events in Emma's life, which then get referenced to a moral and/or biblical source. Emma, Rabbi Herzbrun, and Emma's Hebrew tutor Leslie Schwartz have worked together to bring Emma to this day!

15: It was a perfect summer evening on the outdoor deck at the Rochester Yacht Club! Lawn games, dance floor fun, and a fancy cook-out!
