FC: Once Upon a Time | January 6, 2012
Although January 6, 2012 marks the beginning of Krista and Andrew's life together, their story actually began more than 30 years earlier, long before either of them were even born. . .Once upon a time. . . In 1980, Peter and Joyce Lucraft,a darling English couple decided to visit America. While traveling through California, they stopped at a restaurant for lunch. Their waitress was a young college student named Tricia. As the young girl approached the table she had no idea that her life was about to change - forever! After looking at the menu, Joyce placed her order for a shrimp sandwich, only to be told that the restaurant was out of shrimp. Joyce began to get upset at this news; however, the young waitress convinced the cook to make the sandwich and Joyce was very happy. They had so much fun together at lunch that Tricia asked Joyce and Peter to come back for dinner that night and they did! They were such wonderful people that Tricia decided to pay for their dessert and a nice drink for dinner. Joyce and Peter were upset with her for this and did not want her to spend her money, but they agreed to let her when she told them that they could 'pay her back' someday when she came to visit them in England. At that time, Tricia only dreamed of traveling, and didn't really believe that she would ever be able to make such a trip. | Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it.
One year later, right after she graduated from college, Tricia's boyfriend, Ray, proposed to her and she said "Yes"! Then she decided it might be nice to fulfill her dream of travel before she got married. She decided to go to England and visit the nice people that she had met in the restaurant. She took her friend Mary and they had a wonderful time! They went on picnics, picked daffodils and she got to know the whole family. | Peter asked the Lord Mayor of London for permission to take the two American guests on a private tour of his residence!
Tricia returned home to plan her wedding. After a few months, Joyce phoned Tricia asking why she had not heard from her in so long. Tricia explained that she had been busy planning the wedding and would love to have them attend, but said that she knew it would be too far for them to travel. Joyce quickly replied that "if they were to receive a 'proper invitation,' that they might consider attending." Well, Tricia quickly got an invitation off to Joyce and Peter and they decided to fly out to California for the wedding! | October 23, 1982 | Today I marry my best friend
Tricia and Ray, were thrilled to have Joyce and Peter share their special day. They were so happy that they invited them to join them for a few days on their honeymoon! | Then, in 1986, Joyce and Peter flew out once again and met Ray and Tricia's newborn son, Devon. Ray and Tricia even taught them some American traditions like, how to drink right from a bottle which they did for the first time in their lives!
Afterwards Ray and Tricia made many trips to visit their friends Joyce and Peter! They met the whole family. Tricia, became best friends with one of Joyce and Peter's daughters, whose name was Debbie. They both wrote to each other often. | 1981 | 2009 | Love is patient, love is kind.
Love conquers all things | As the years went by, Tricia and Ray had three beautiful children, named Devon, Krista and Michelle. | "A happy family is but an earlier heaven."
families are forever | Debbie and her husband, Robin had four wonderful children, Maria, Vicky, Toby and Andrew. The two young couples became such good friends, that Robin flew out to the states in 1992 to investigate the possibility of moving their family to America and living near Ray and Tricia's family. He spent a lovely week with them. He read bedtime stories to Devon, Krista and Michelle and they enjoyed introducing him to new and interesting foods! | The family is one of nature's masterpieces
Then, in 1996, Ray and Tricia decided to take their family on a trip to meet their "English family" that they had heard so much about. They had a wonderful time on the farm playing with the animals, and sharing giggles and good conversation over cups of tea! | Andrew helping Michelle ride a horse | Michelle, Devon and Krista riding horses
Both families had a great time together and they made many wonderful memories. | Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage
a day to remember | The children were all very excited to meet each other. Ray and Tricia's daughters Krista and Michelle were more interested in the baby lambs and the horses on that visit than anything else.
Debbie and Robin's son Andrew was more interested in hanging out and riding motorbikes with his brother Toby and Krista’s brother Devon although he did help the girls ride the ponies. His older sisters Maria and Vicki took all the children on a horseback ride along the beach and down the road. | Andrew and Krista | Vicki and Krista | And now abide faith, hope, and love, these three, but the greatest is love.
As soon go kindle fire with snow. As seek to quench the fire of love with words | It was a great trip and the children had fun meeting and playing with, Joyce and Peter, who had started it all with their trip to the restaurant so many years earlier.
All, everything that I understand, I understand only because I love | The following years were filled with phone calls, letters, photos and poems which traveled to and fro "across the pond". Then one day, Tricia received a phone call telling her that Joyce's health was beginning to decline. In 2000, Tricia was talking to Joyce on the phone, and it sounded like she was not feeling well so Ray insisted that Tricia take a quick trip to England to check in on them. | Tricia got on a plane a week later and spent a lovely five days with Joyce and Peter who seemed to be doing well. However, six months later Joyce suddenly passed away.
Tricia and Ray were heartbroken to lose their dear friend, but now they were more determined than ever to make sure that they kept in touch with their "English family"! They promised that they would all stay in touch. | "Granny Joyce" being silly, in 1981 for Tricia and with Krista in 1999
In order to keep this promise, they flew out to England the following year for Maria's (Andrew's sister) wedding. It was wonderful and they all had a great time together. However, they didn't know it then, but this was to be the last time they saw their dear friend Peter. | Ray and Tricia looking quite "British" for the wedding.
Love conquers all things | At the wedding, Tricia tried to encourage Andrew to come to America for a visit. She told him that she had two beautiful daughters who would love to meet him. Little did she know how much her daughters would truly love him!
Not long after the wedding, Peter passed away. Tricia and Ray were very sad to hear the news of their dear friend's passing. Then, about one month later they were stunned to learn that Peter and Joyce had truly 'adopted them as family' as they had included Ray and Tricia in their last requests leaving to them the sum of 1,000 pounds! Upon learning of this, Ray and Tricia immediately called Debbie and Robin and promised to use the money to visit them and take them all to dinner in honor of their father and mother, knowing that this is what Joyce andPeter would have wanted them to do.
Love isn't finding a perfect person. It's seeing an imperfect person perfectly | In 2009 Ray and Tricia planned a trip to England to fulfill their promise. At the last minute, all three of their children decided to join them on this trip. Little did they know, that this would change their lives forever. . .
. . ".she thinks my tractor's sexy." . | Upon landing in England Debbie picked the Krakowski family up at the airport and drove them to the farm. | When they arrived at the farm, Andrew had just driven up in his tractor. . . | In dreams and in love there are no impossibilities
 true | Love
just the | beginning | Krista and Michelle jumped out of the car and Andrew got out of his tractor and. . . cupid shot his arrows and Peter and Joyce smiled in heaven! Who would have dreamed that all this could come simply from ordering a shrimp sandwich?
Side by side or miles apart, dear friends are always close to the heart. | At the end of that trip, no one wanted to leave! The bonds that had been built would not be broken by the span of an ocean.
I love you, not only for what you are, But for what I am when I am with you. | A lifetime of friendship and love had been sealed! | Therefore what God has joined together, no human being must separate.
 true | Love
...When we should live together in a cozy little cot Hid in a nest of roses, with a fairy garden-spot, Where the vines were ever fruited and the weather ever fine, And the birds were ever singing for that old sweetheart of mine.... When I should be her lover forever and a day, And she my faithful sweetheart till the golden hair was gray; And we should be so happy that when either's lips were dumb They would not smile in Heaven till the other's kiss had come. -James Whitcomb Riley | January 6, 2012 | (Krista's Grandpa "Papa" recited this poem at her parents' wedding in 1982 and it made Andrew's Grandma Joyce cry.)
