Travel | Beautiful views of Gent
good eats | We found a fantastic Fritterie right by the hotel. They didn't speak much of English but we managed to figure out a delicious lunch order! With fries and mayonnaise of course!
One of the best things about Gent was our favorite beer house being so close to the hotel. Babe and I stopped in for these afternoon beers after getting caught in the rain on our canal ride.
Our canal ride through the city. The views were so beautiful!
The view of the Gravensteen Castle from our hotel window.
One of my favorite discoveries while wandering the streets of Gent. This narrow alley was covered in beautiful graffiti.
Goodbye Belgium, Hello France! | The Moet & Chandon Champagne House and Caves
Our tour of the champagne caves were amazing.! We saw so many bottles then headed upstairs for some tasting. Mum and Mike were kind enough to buy us a bottle of Rose we had for our anniversary. We made it back to the car just in time to miss the rain from an afternoon thunderstorm.
One of my favorite memories of the trip was Babe and I dancing in this ballroom at the Musée d'Orsay. I couldn't help sneaking this illegal picture.
The weather was so sunny and beautiful. And it was Babe's first time seeing the La Tour Eiffel. | Our boat ride on the river La Seine was wonderful.
 Love Lockets
La Sainte-Chapelle | My favorite chapel in the world to be in.
Beautiful views of the city | My new best friend!
Our views from Arc de Triomphe
 Happy Anniversary
Best Salmon I've ever had! But the carrot puree stole the meal. | Babe's veal, mushrooms and scalloped potatoes.
Our view from our gorgeous window seat. | Eiffel Tower Chocolate Cake for dessert!
After our meal we watched the Eiffel tower lights and then took a walk in the park. This anniversary will be hard to top next year.
 Paris | Edinburgh | I Heart Whisky
One of the highlights of the trip was our hike along Hadrian's wall. We drove down to Alnwick from Edinburgh and stayed in a very cute flat. The day we walked along the wall was gorgeous. Parts of the Roman wall date back to 122 AD. | We walked beside the wall and actually on top of it too. It was breezy and the perfect day out.
The views were all so breathtaking!
 Beautiful Day!
Alnwick Castle was a highlight of the trip for me. Not only was the castle beautiful, but it was where parts of Harry Potter was filmed! We walked the grounds and saw the gorgeous state rooms first. They were all very well maintained because the castle has only belonged to one family for over 700 years. Then we went on the movie tour of the castle where they showed different parts of the castle that had been used for filming. (Harry Potter being the best thing filmed there obviously.) This entrance to the castle was used as the entrance to Hogwarts in the movies. The raised walkway to the right of the picture is where Hagrid even walked in a shot as a low cost way to make him taller than the kids.
Our tour guide was great and he told us stories from the filming. The castle holly bush shown next to the entrance was damaged during the second movie filming. In a scene where they tried to have the Weasley family car fly out to the dark forest instead of drive. It crashed off a crane into the bush and was cut from the movie. The picture to the left shows where they filmed the wizards learning how to ride a broom in the first movie! | The castle is in such great condition also because it was never taken by force. That's another reason it's still used for so much filming. The grounds around it are gorgeous as well.
While we were there the castle was being used for filming of a game show. People were parachuting in for it even!
 The castle grounds were gorgeous!
I convinced Babe and Mike to do some archery with me at the castle. | What a stud!
Scones with clotted cream and jam. My favorite!! | We drove from Alnwick to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne. The road can only be accessed in low tides, it floods over with water daily.
The ruins of a very old monastery on the Holy Island of Lindisfarne.
Beautiful views of the coast from the island. Lindisfarne Castle is in the distance. | Walking up to Bamburgh Castle.
Bamburgh Castle. | I need one of these for the house!
Because everyone needs a man trap! | Beautiful view of the castle from the beach!
Our adorable little cottage in Alnwick.
On our way back to Edinburgh we stopped for a tour of The Royal Yacht Britannia. The ship carried the Queen and her family from 1953 until it retired in 1997. The queen had it decorated in a very modest style, even her cabin only had a twin bed. | We had lunch and scones in the tea room! It was a very nice meal.
The dining room takes 3 hours to set. | View of the outside of the yacht and it's smaller sailboat.
 Welcome back to London.! Proper night out time. | S H O T S | The view from Lottie's family's flat.
Chaps | Last night out in London
Ending our trip on a high note we drove up to Windsor for the day. We visited the castle, then had our last pub meal out with Rachel and Anthony.
Going to Europe has always been an amazing trip. But having Babe to travel with made it so much more special.
I was very sad for this trip to end, but I know it is the first of many! Best summer I've ever had for sure.
