How a fish breathes, a very important part of living. Fish obtain oxygen through gills. The way this works is that water flows over the gills, as it does this oxygen is moved from the water into the fishes blood, at the same time the carbon dioxide that is in a fishes blood moves out of the fishes blood.
Movement, probably the most important part of all fish life other than obtaining food. since fish spend most of their time hunting, most of their movements are related to feeding. they have large paddle like "tail" fins that act like a Canoes paddle. this helps them move quickly. they are also bilaterally symmetrical which allows them to move efficiently. this makes fish a very efficient swimmer.
You may be curious how fish reproduce, well here it is. Most of the fish have external fertilization. This is when the egg is fertilized outside the female fishes body. The male stays near and releases sperm over the egg. On the other hand some fish have internal fertilization. This is when the eggs are fertilized and developed in the females body. Both of these methods of reproduction are sexual meaning it requires two fish.
As said earlier, fishes movement and feeding are greatly related. fish that have sharp teeth like trout eat bugs. fish can, obviously, see better than humans under water. a fish has a highly developed nervous system and sense organs they can easily hide from predators or find food. fish have keen senses of touch smell and taste.
Kingdom: Animalia Phylum: Cordata Class: Verbrata Order: Jawless, Cartilougous and Bony fish
Fish have always been an important food source to humans and it seemed like there were endless amounts of them! But know due to over fishing we the fish have slowly been disappearing. Because of this people have made farms to grow fish on for food letting the ocean repopulate itself due to lack of fishing.
Some interesting facts about fish are that they were first discovered on earth around the devonian period. A particularly interesting species is the barrel fish. This fish is interesting because it has a clear head that has to big green orbs in it. These orbs act as eyes, they look up for prey or predators. The eyes look up because these fish live in the darkest parts of the ocean so predators most likely wouldn't come from below. this fish belongs to the genus Opisthoproctus and the species Soleatus.
jaw less fish don't have scales, weird huh?
