FC: French Revolution

The French Revolution had started because of unfair taxes that people had to pay. It was unfair because only one class out of three classes were being taxed. Also, the King and Queen were spending too much money for themselves.

The Three estates/classes that were a part of France's government were the Clergy, Nobility, and Commoners.

The Clergy, or the 1st class were church officials, or people who run the church. They made up .5% of the population and paid no taxes.

The Nobility, or 2nd class people were people that had to do with law such as positions in government or military. They made up 1.5% of the population and paid no taxes.

The Commoners or the 3rd class were people like doctors, lawyers, and middle class. They made up 98% of the population and were the only ones who paid tax. But they themselves did not get a lot of money to begin with.

The Third class was so upset and everyone else was in so much debt, they decided to vote on a new way to govern the money.

Each estate/class only got one vote. Instead of every individual have one vote.

The King decided not to change things so the Commoners went off and decided to make their own way of government.

The Commoners, along with a few others, took what they called a Tennis Court oath. An oath that states that they will not leave until they wrote a Document that protects all their rights.

The the Commoners or now known as the National Assembly, created a document called The Declaration of Men and Citizens.

A group of women rushed to the kings court and commanded him to sign it or they will kill him. So he king decided to sign it.

Many other countries were scared of the French Revolution because they thought that they might be next in debt or attacked.

Meanwhile people started talking about the king sending troops out to Paris to attack the Bastille.Troops came and took down that Bastille brick by brick because they thought that they were hiding weapons there.

The Reign of Terror was also known as the Committee of Public Safety. They were involved in a lot of violence but some good things they did was help establish price limits for the poor, provided education for all, and got rid of all slavery in all French Colonies.

Maximilian was a famous leader among many people but, was soon killed after he was killing everyone who opposed the Revolution.

Napoleon was popular because he was known for bringing the French Revolution to an end.

Napoleon had a code called the civil code that gave rights to all citizens. However, Napoleon got rid of liberty.

Many people started liking Napoleon but then after a while other countries started opposing him because he fought and started wars with them.

Napoleon was killed in one of his battles against Russia in Waterloo.

All these events led up to, happened during, and ended the French Revolution.
