1: In India there are three major holidays. They are Independence Day ( August 15th), Republic Day (January 26th), and Gandhi Jayantil (October 2nd).

2: Gandhi Jayantil is a favorite holiday of many people in India. It is the birthday of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi.

4: Who is Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi? Why is he so important?

5: Gandhi is commonly known as "Bapu." He is considered to be the "Father of the Nation (India)."

6: Every Year on Gandhi's birthday children have the day off of school and most adults have the day off from work. On October 2nd everyone is celebrating "Bapu."

7: Prayer services are held in Gandhi's honor and his favorite song, "Raghupati Raghava Raja Ram", is played.

8: Ghandi believed in solving conflicts peacefully. Therefore, October 2nd is also the "International Day of Non-Violence" everywhere in the world

9: In India people clean public areas, plant new plants, and paint murals together as a community.

10: To build a brighter tomorrow, peacefully.
