S: Mendonca Family Vacation : Greece 2009
FC: Mendonca Family Vacation | GREECE 2009
Our long journey to Greece had some slight turbulence, but once everyone found their own unconventional spots to take a power nap we were ready for the amazing trip ahead of us. Aunt Holly and Uncle Joe picked us up from the airport and soon we were boarded on the ferry headed for Evia. No one knew what amazing sights awaited us!
Letting the Salty breeze awaken our senses we wondered with wide eyes and hearts what was in store. When we arrived at the Polhemus household we were in awe. It was such a majestic place we were lucky to call our own.
This beautiful church was the view from the back patio...what a way to have your morning coffee!
Our first night in Evia we had an amazing authentic meal outside under the stars. While all the locals were tuned in to the soccer game on tv, we were very in tune to our first gyro experience! Yamas!
Finally we get to meet Yaya! We had a tour of her house and animals, and then went for a short walk through her neighborhood. A friend from down the road invited us in for drinks and helped Jessie with a new do'. Such an enjoyable afternoon with new friends!
Every other day we ventured to a new beach...and each one was more beautiful than the last! We also got in some tours of the Evian ruins nearby.
After a day at the beach, how else to end the evening than shopping and dinner outside with friends? Should have packed an extra suitcase for all that pottery!
Kapoozi! Kapoozi! It's time for the outdoor market! We walked the streets filled with locals buying their herbs and olives and fell victim to picking up various goodies and treats. Probably the most fun we've had grocery shopping to date!
Athenos! We took the bus ride to Athens, saw the parliament building and even had pigeons sit on our heads (silly tourists). But who could forget those astonishing views from the top of the Acropolis? Or being able to visit the newly opened Acropolis museum. Remember the ruins underneath our feet? Magical.
I think I can see Providence from up here!
We loved spending time with our new adopted family! While they shared all of their beautiful culture with us, what did they want in return? Pancakes! We are happy to oblige...just keep sending the homemade wine!
 Welcome to Delphi
It was a large climb to the top, but the views in Delphi were unparalleled! We learned about the ancient Oracle and saw the gymnasium that started it all! We all left that day enriched, sweaty and exhausted. We have these memories with us now forever.
Day trip ending with us at a cafe with amazing water views, and ending the night with ouzo... who's idea was that?
Dinner up in the mountains full with great food and an amazing stop at a hillside church with the purest water in Greece. | Aunt Holly and Uncle Joe's house was even more complete when we discovered the almond trees!
Hands down the last day in Greece was the most beautiful. We saw the greatest beach of our entire trip, had a fabulous meal and enjoyed the time with our new family. I hope this book reminds you of all the amazing memories that we shared.
