S: Hawaii 2006
Our very first day in Hawaii a Sea Lion came up on our private beach to welcome us!!!
The first thing we did was drive the ENTIRE island! Dad wanted to make sure we could say we'd seen it all.
We were supposed to be waiting for mom and dad who were in the visitors center trying to map out our vacation when we decided to climb this awesome tree! Only to find out later that they were protected and not supposed to be climbed...oops!
The Dole Plantation started out as a fruit stand in 1950 and is now one of the most popular attractions in Oahu, welcoming over 1 million visitors per year! Their Garden maze is the largest in the world stretching over 2 acres with 2 1/2 miles of paths.
Eating AMAZING pineapple ice cream at the DOLE plantation!
Playing out on the Beach! | It was quite the feat to get Shelby in the water, but we finally chased her down and forced her in. : )
Leah was was terrified of the water and refused to go anywhere near it! But she did love to play in the sand!
Aboard the Atlantis Submarine | Diving down 100ft in a 48 passenger submarine was quite the experience!
Waimea Valley Park | The park is 1,800 acres!
Our first time hearing a Peacock, we thought someone was screaming for help!!
The water has a reddish tint due to the iron oxide found in the volcanic soils that flow down from the mountains by the Waimea River
 Visiting Pearl Harbor
The names of the 1,177 men killed on the USS Arizona, oil still seeps from the wreckage and is referred to as the tears of the USS Arizona
Playing a little checkers while waiting for our tour to begin. | The Japanese surrendered aboard the deck of the USS Missouri on Sept. 2, 1945. Thus, the battleship sits next to the USS Arizona, marking the beginning and end of World War II. | The USS Missouri is faced to overlook the USS Arizona where it can watch over the fallen men as they rest in peace.
The 9 16in guns can hurl 2,700 lb shells 23miles in 50 seconds with pinpoint accuracy.
Leah was terrified of the water!! She had a death grip on my shirt!
The sea turtles came out on this particular beach around the same time every day! They are a protected species so we couldn't get too close to them.
We went to see the turtles twice and both times we ended up at the hospital because someone busted their toe on the rocks!!
No, Dad is not standing on a sea turtle and Joanna is much further away than she appears. :)
Joanna helping to teach us the Hula!
The Polynesian Cultural Center | Over 50 Polynesians in traditional costume gave us their interpretation of Pacific history and myths through a canoe pageant!
Yes everyone! That is Dad basically doing the chicken dance!!! He's such a good sport! Apparently its the male version of the hula dance.
Little Leah locking herself in the van with the keys. Can you tell she was very proud of herself? IT took us quite a while to get her to unlock it and let us in the little rascal!!! In the meantime, mom all but had a heart attack and definitely got a few more gray hairs.
Learning to make traditional Hawaiian Leis!! Very fun activity! Dad and Leah decided to skip out, probably a very wise decision. : ) The rest of us enjoyed it though and our instructor was so nice!
We had a great time relaxing on the beach!! although some of us got bad sunburns from it! I'm sure poor Kristina will never forget that sunburn, but if she does we won't let her forget how much she looked like a lobster! Poor girl! | We didn't get any pictures, but one day Dad was a great sport and took Lindsay hiking through the rainforest to a waterfall.
Venturing Out To Waikiki Beach After Dark!
Leah really enjoyed the pineapple ice cream! It was so good!
