FC: Hong Kong 1975 photos by Eddie Wong

1: In July 1975, I was 25 years old and went to Hong Kong to meet my sister Donna, who had been teaching for a year in Taiwan, and to meet my grandfather Lan Ho Yee for the first time. I spent a month wandering the streets and took photos almost everyday in the city, out in the countryside, and by the sea.

2: Central City Hong Kong

3: Street vendors, kids at play, shops, and even small temples are scattered throughout the central city. A feast for the eyes and ears.

29: Leaving Hong Kong by train to the New Territories brings you to fishing villages and farming communities where there are open spaces and a less hurried pace of living.

40: The highlight of the trip was meeting our grandfather,Lan Wo Yee. Our mother had told us many stories about his background as a farmer and bookstore owner in Toishan, but we really did not have a sense of him until we met. He was a very friendly, gracious man, who took us to dim sum several times, always at the same restaurant and at the same table where he held court as friends came by to greet him. We also learned that he augmented the funds my mother and father sent him by running errands for people and betting on the horse races at Happy Valley. He passed away in 1988.
