Ines, I always find comfort in Psalm 91, verses 1-6. When I am in fear of what may lie ahead, I recite to myself the 4th verse in particular. "He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your armor and protection." He is my protector and calms my fears. I keep you in my prayers. Love Georgia Submitted by Georgia Fields

When things go wrong as they sometimes will; When the road you're trudging seems all uphill; When the funds are low and the debts are high; And you want to smile but have to sigh When care is pressing you down a bit- Rest if you must but do not quit. Success is failure turned inside out; The silver tint of the clouds of doubt; And you can never tell how close you are It may be near when it seems so far; So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit- It's when things go wrong that you must not quit. Unknown Submitted by Lani Frances

That is what our PEO is like. We never go through anything alone. Submitted by Maria Miller

Then you will call upon me and go and pray to me, and I will listen to you. Jeremiah 29: 11-12 submitted by Betty Scott and Angie Lochbaum | Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. Hebrews 11:1 Submitted by Kay Wallace

Hope: The Anchor of the Soul Hebrews 6:13-20 Hope is a healthy attitude. Anticipating good brings comfort to the mind and heart. In contrast, a state of hopelessness is a terrible condition in which to find oneself. It's overwhelming and depressing to think that what you're facing cannot be changed or resolved. For the person who has lost all hope, life looks like a long dark tunnel going nowhere. Included in Proverbs is a verse that describes the result of this oppressive feeling: "Hope deferred makes the heart sick" (Prov. 13:12). Emotional, physical, and even mental illness haunt a person who feels trapped in a bleak situation. But I want to tell you, my friend, that as long as there is a God, no situation is hopeless. In Him, we have the promise of the second half of that proverb: "Desire fulfilled is a tree of life." Believers have a hope that anchors their souls. Our relationship with Jesus Christ brings us close to the throne of heaven, where we can cast all our burdens before an omnipotent God. Moreover, we can cling to Him through whatever trials are facing us. Because of the Lord's great love, He provides strength for weary bodies, peace for anxious minds, and comfort for grieving hearts. In short, He lights that darkened tunnel and tenderly guides us through trying situations. An anchor was a popular image in the ancient Mediterranean world. In an economy that depended on shipping, the anchor symbolized safety and steadiness. The writer of Hebrews used the word to remind believers that God has given a hope that holds firm in any storm. In Touch Ministries, Inc. Submitted by Judith Hortel

Life isn't about how to survive the storm, but how to dance in the rain.

How to Dance in the Rain It was a busy morning, about 8:30, when an elderly gentleman in his 80's arrived at the hospital to have stitches removed from his thumb. He said he was in a hurry as he had an appointment at 9:00am. The nurse took his vitals signs and had him take a seat, knowing it would be over an hour before someone would be able to see him. I saw him looking at his watch and decided, since I was not busy with another patient, I would evaluate his wound. On exam it was well healed, so I talked to one of the doctors, got the needed supplies to remove his sutures and redress his wound. While taking care of his wound, I asked him if he had another doctor's appointment this morning, as he was in such a hurry. The gentleman told me no, that he needed to go to the nursing home to eat breakfast with his wife. I inquired as to her health. He told me that she had been there for a while and that she was a victim of Alzheimer's Disease. As we talked, I asked if she would be upset if he was a bit late. He replied that she no longer knew who he was, that she had not recognized him in five years now. I was surprised, and asked him, "And you still go every morning, even though she doesn't know who you are?" He smiled as he patted my hand and said, "She doesn't know me, but I still know who she is." Where there is love, there is hope, and your sisters love you unconditionally. Submitted by Judy Stover

The Hope Diamond of the Bible 'For God So loved the world, That he gave his one and only Son, That whoever believes in him Shall not perish but have Eternal life". "A twenty six word parade of hope; beginning with God, ending with life, and urging us to do the same. Brief enough to write on a napkin or memorize in a moment, yet solid enough to weather two thousand years of storms and questions. If you know nothing of the Bible, start here. If you know everything in the Bible, return here. We all need the reminder. The heart of the human problem is the heart of the human. And God's treatment is prescribed in John 3:16. He loves. He gave. We believe. We live.

The words are to Scripture what the Mississippi River is to America-an entryway into the heartland. Believe or dismiss them, embrace or reject them, any serious consideration of Christ must include them. Would a British historian dismiss the Magna Carta? Egyptologists overlook the Rosetta stone? Could you ponder the words of Christ and never immerse yourself into John 3:16? The verse in an alphabet of grace, a table of contents to the Christian hope, each word a safe-deposit box of jewels. Read it again, slowly and aloud, and note the word that snatches your attention. "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." Max Lucado "The Numbers of Hope" Submitted by Kay Wallace

"When you walk through a storm keep your chin up high and don't be afraid of the dark. At the end of the storm is a golden sky and the sweet silver song of a lark. | Walk on through wind, walk on through rain, Tho your dreams be tossed and blown. Walk on, walk on with hope in your heart and you'll never walk alone." Submitted by Judi Davey

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6 Submitted by Joyce Atwood and Faye Coe | "Laughter, tears, joys, and fears. There isn't a part of your life that God doesn't share- or a part of you He doesn't love!" Holley Gerth Submitted by Lynn Street | Seek the Lord and HIS strength. Seek his face continually. Psalm 105: 4 Submitted by Martha Watson | We can rejoice too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love. Romans 5:3-5 Submitted by Jackie Shrader

Thoughts regarding HOPE. I feel that everyone, no matter how humble he may be, has angels to watch over him. I have always felt that my mother is one of my angels watching over me, guiding me and showing me the way to go. On certain days when I have a special problem it seems she is the one who leads the way for me. I do not hear her voice but rather I feel her presence. Sometimes we all find it difficult to trust the Lord for the needs of today. My angels have helped me realize that into the unknown future, with no clear path, I could become fearful. But it is true that angels keep us connected to Christ so that we do not become separated from God. God is our hope for the future. I feel it is important to remember that God is willing to do the same for us today as he did in the past. We can thank Him for the past and have confidence in Him for our future. Sometimes He takes us out of situations, problems or needs---other times He takes us through them. "IF GOD BRINGS US TO IT, HE WILL BRING US THROUGH IT." Submitted by Pat Barada

To my friend Ines- Psalm 20:11 "The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord blesses his people with peace." I have admired you since the first days we met...through LD tutoring and it has continued throughout these many years. You befriended and encouraged me and kept my hopes alive during some heart-wrenching months. Thank you so much Ines. You have also given me joy. Very special was the day we went shopping at Elder-Beerman. I felt happy being with you. Your beauty was radiant at the New Year's Eve dinner at the Country Club and your smile was contagious to all the guests. And Ines, what a gracious hostess you are....it was pure happiness to play bridge in your lovely home. Please always remember you are precious and admiration follows you wherever you are. Lovingly in P.E.O., Grace

I know sometimes there are more questions than answers...Times when our hearts are weary and our strength fades...But when we cannot stand, God carries us through...And I want you to know that I am here for you too. Submitted by Sue Crago | Nothing that is worth doing can be achieved in our lifetime; therefore we must be saved by hope. Nothing we do, however virtuous, can be accomplished alone; therefore we are saved by love. No virtuous act is quite as virtuous from the standpoint of our friend or foe as it is from our standpoint. Therefore, we must be saved by the final form of love, which is forgiveness. Submitted by Laurel Evans

"The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heart." Helen Keller | The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts; so I am helped, and my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him." Psalm 28: 7 "The time when you have seen only one set of footprints is when I carried you." Mary Stevenson Submitted by Diane Crawford

"Believe in yourself. You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you stop to look fear in the face...You must do that which you think you cannot do." Eleanor Roosevelt When my children were at home and growing up one of my favorite books to read to them was, The Little Engine That Could. I read it so many times that my children memorized the words. When, in tough times, and all HOPE seemed lost I would always say to them, remember the Little Engine, "I think I can, I think I can,, I think I can!" They would laugh, and go back to work plugging along just like the "Little Engine". As we grow older, or more mature, it is hard to recall that book, but so important to retain that idea, "I think I can!" So, try to sail in a hot air balloon, try to sing, try to do something outrageous, try to see the beauty that surrounds you, try to love more, try to live more, and try to believe that each day is truly a gift. We need to have the HOPE that we "BELIEVE we CAN" each moment that we live. Love in P.E.O., Amey VanVoorhis

Hold out Hope Hope is more than just a word it's a state of being. It's a firm belief that even if you don't know how, even if you don't know when, God will come through and better days are ahead. Life sends rain... Hope dances in the puddles until the sun comes out again. By Holly Gerth Submitted by Kay Wallace | Oh, the comfort, the inexpressible comfort of feeling safe with a person, Having neither to weigh thoughts, nor measure words but pouring them all right out...just as they are...Chaff and grain together -Certain that a faithful hand will take and sift them- Keep what is worth keeping-And with the breath of kindness Blow the rest away. I will always remember the purple flowers you brought to me, you are really a friend. Love in P.E.O. Jean Shipley | Ines, When I met you many years ago, I admired your style, your clothes, your jewelry, and your beautiful home. You are a special P.E.O. sister...an exquisite butterfly with charm and sparkle! Love in P.E.O. Laura Whinery | May God's presence be known to you Ines, that each day you wake up with renewed conviction to persevere the fight for healing. Submitted by Judy Trusler

I invited Christ into my life many years ago. Since that time, I can only testify to the fact that He is always the one that we can place our hope in each day for the help and strength that we might need for any particular moment. Going to Him with our requests, and seeking Him through scripture is the best source of hope I know! Even though I constantly gain new hope and insight by reading new scripture, I lean heavily upon the Psalms, as well as go back to some favorites during times of need. I draw much hope and help from I Peter 5:7 "Casting all your cares upon Him, for He cares for you." Also, Philippians 4:6-7 "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God, and the peace that surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." To sum this up, "I will seek the presence of God in the midst of trouble." Jesus tells us in John 16:13 "I have told you all this that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world." Submitted by Debbie Smith | Your Guardian Angel I said an angel prayer today to the one who stands beside you, Who lights the way from day to day with heavenly help to guide you. I prayed she'd wrap you in her wings, Holding you secure, And then increase your inner peace Through faith that's deep and sure. I asked that she would shelter you, Comfort you and bless you With heavenly grace to help you face Whatever may distress you. Most of all, I prayed that you Could always sense her there, Holding you, enfolding you Within God's loving care. Submitted by Sharon Gaskill

Huggy Bear Teddy Bears were created long ago by some child's mom or dad; to provide a "warm fuzzy comforter" and calm what fears they had. The Bear cut in this coin for you is a "warm fuzzy" you can keep; A reminder that someone cares if you're smiling, when you weep. Lock this sentiment in your heart, And carry the coin to unlock it; and know whenever you need it, you'll have a HUG right in your pocket. Submitted by Dee Bevans | There's something in a simple hug That always warms the heart It welcomes us back home And makes it easier to part A hugs a way to share the joy And sad times we go through Or just a way for friends to say They like you cause you're you Hugs are meant for anyone For whom we really care, From your grandma to your neighbor Or a cuddly teddy bear, A hug is an amazing thing It's just the perfect way To show the love we are feeling But can't find the words to say. It's funny how a little hug Makes Everyone feel good; In every place and language It's always understood. And hugs don't need new equipment Special batteries or parts Just open up your arms And open up your hearts.l Submitted by Nancy Gigley

Psalms 62: 5-8 Submitted by Patty Hartsock | "But you will not leave in haste or go in flight for the Lord will go before you, the God of Israel will be your rear guard." Isaiah 52:12 Dear Ines, It is such a comfort to know that the Lord has our fronts and our back! He is holding us and loving us more than we can fathom. Submitted by Jennifer Schmitt | Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint. Isaiah 40: 28-31 Submitted by Suzanne Stiving | "See, I have engraved you on the palm of my hand."
