FC: Jerry Garcia
2: On August 1st, 1942, Jerome John Garcia was born. He was born in San Francisco to his mother, a nurse, and his father, a jazz musician. Jerome went by the name Jerry, and during his upbringing, he took an interest in art and music.
3: At age 4, Jerry lost his middle finger in a woodcutting accident. Fortunately, that didn't stop him from becoming a great musician.
4: As a boy, Jerry studied piano. When in his teenage years, he would switch his interest to studying the guitar.
5: When home from the army, Jerry began teaching music at a music store. | At age 17, Jerry dropped out of high school and served in the military for 9 months.
7: In 1965, Jerry formed a band called 'The Warlocks.' Upon learning that another group already had that name, the group name was changed to "The Grateful Dead.'
8: Early in the bands history, they played a lot of psychedelic music. As time went on, they began playing more diverse rock styles of music.
9: When the band started to fall apart, Jerry worked on a lot of solo albums and songs.
10: In the 1980's, Jerry became heavily addicted to drugs. He was arrested in 1985, and afterwards sent to a treatment center. After waking up from a diabetic coma, Jerry | preformed one of his better known songs, and also a hit single, 'Touch of Grey.' On August 9th, 1995, Jerry died of heart failure in Forest Knolls, California.
12: After his death, Many of Jerry's fans were devastated. Although he is gone, his musical and artistic influence still remains today. His songs are still heavily listened to, and his image hangs on many walls of young, and old people all over the world. Regardless of his flaws, Jerry was without a doubt one of the best musicians ever to live.
