S: Kenya & Tanzania (June 2011)
FC: Overland Camping Safari Kenya & Tanzania June 2011
1: In two weeks and two countries, I found ALL of East Africa's Big Five: Cape Buffalo, Rhino, Elephant, Lion, and Leopard.
3: A trip to the noon feeding at Nairobi's David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust Elephant Orphanage. Abandoned baby elephants are raised here until they are three and able to be rehabilitated into the wild.
5: Visits to Nairobi's Giraffe Center and the New Hope Children's Orphange.
6: Snapshots of Camp Life on an Overland Truck.
7: Just 45 minutes out of Nairobi, our truck experienced its first breakdown. We had breakdown number two on our way up to Ngorongoro Crater. Replacements were found, and all could smile for the group shots on the last day.
8: First game drive at Kenya's Lake Nakuru National Park - flamingos, buffalo, jackals, impalas, rhino, pelicans, zebras, babboons, & sunset.
9: A morning walk at Mwariki village - knitting cooperative, bead cooperative, Tilapia farm, and lots of work being done.
10: Lake Naivasha: A morning walking safari and hike to Crater Lake followed by an afternoon boat ride on the lake.
13: A night spent as the guests of a Masai tribe - the women of the village sang for us, the warriors danced for us, and the men slaughtered a goat for us.
14: Kenya's Masai Mara National Reserve | Two days of amazing game drives - highlights included watching 16 lions feast on a buffalo kill and eating lunch on the banks of the Mara River across from the hippos and crocs!
16: A tour of the Kisac Soapstone Factory to watch the stone being carved, sanded, and painted as it is transformed into art.

18: Lake Victoria & scenes from Tanzania captured from the truck.

21: Game drives in the Serengeti where we finally got to see leopards! (Plus wildebeests, cheetahs, a black mamba, vultures, baboons, hartebeests, hippos, ostrich, lions, zebras, etc.)
22: A visit to Olduvai (actually "Oldupai" - Masai for the sisal plant) Gorge to learn about the fossils found in the layers of the "Cradle of Mankind."
23: Good-bye overland truck, hello pop-up safari jeep for a morning game drive in the Ngorongoro Crater - lots of highlights including a serval cat.
