FC: Life Cycle of a Massive Star

1: Nebula A star is born from a collapsing dust and gas cloud. Cloud collapses due to a disturbance such as an explosion of a nearby star or two nebulas colliding. Gravity takes over and the nebula flattens and spins. Star is born in the center. | Stage 1

2: Main Sequence Once star is born it becomes a main sequence star. It spends most of its life in this stage. Our sun is currently in this stage. Other main sequence stars would include Blue Stars and Red Dwarfs | Stage 2

3: Supergiant A Main Sequence star uses up all of its hydrogen and its atmosphere expands causing this 3rd stage; supergiant. SuperGiants are very large but very cool stars. | Stage 3

4: Stage 4 | Death by Supernova These massive stars will eventually die in a tremendous explosion.

5: Black Hole The leftover material of the supernova sometimes create a blackhole. | Stage 5
