FC: Lucy Pevensie and the Monomyth By: Kaitlyn Russell

UNUSUAL BIRTH: Lucy Pevensie and her four other siblings were evacuated from London for their safety during World War 2. They then took up temporary residence in the country manor of an old man known as, Professor Kirke. One day Lucy and her siblings decided to play hide-n-seek. Lucy found an empty room with just a wardrobe inside. This is when Lucy finds that the secret wardrobe has a magical power. She is able to travel to a different country, Narnia, when she enters the wardrobe.

THE CALL: Lucy’s calling to go back to Narnia was to show her sister and brothers that she was not lying about the wardrobe. She was picked on by them for days for being “childish”. Lucy needed to prove that she was not lying about Narnia. Once her siblings realized she was not lying at all, they were quick to apologize to her.

SUPERNATURAL HELP: Many people/ animals helped Lucy and her siblings throughout their journey to save Narnia. Some of the people/ animals were Aslan, the Beavers, Father Christmas, and the soldiers fighting for Narnia’s freedom from the White Witch. But Aslan was the main character that helped Lucy defeat the White Witch and her soldiers. Aslan gave her advice and encouragement. The Beavers helped her to find her way to Aslan. And Farther Christmas gave Lucy receives a dagger and a magic vial that restores the health of anyone injured.

THE THRESHOLD: Lucy has to keep running from the White Witch, because if she is captured no one will save Narnia from the witches evil powers. So she has to keep watching all around her at all times. The White Witch has “watchers” everywhere. But once Lucy gets to Aslan she hides behind his great power. Then she has enough courage to fight back against the White Witch.

INITIATION AND TESTS: Lucy had to over come losing her brother, Edmund, to the White witch. Lucy has to depend on her siblings for strength, because she basically lost her mom and dad when she was forced to move to England. Instead of Lucy getting depressed and sitting around she and Aslan plan a way to get him back safely. She uses her sorrow and turns it into a great power and strength. Lucy in the end becomes a stronger and more protective person.

THE RETURN: After the White Witch is defeated the Narnians throw a huge thank you party. This is when Aslan crowns Lucy as “Queen Lucy the Valiant”. After “years” in Narnia Lucy and her siblings stumble upon the lamppost, from the beginning of the story. They seem to remember what the lamppost stood for, but not really. That’s when Lucy discovers the door to the wardrobe and remembers everything. She and her siblings walk into the wardrobe and discover they are back to their young ages and are in the empty room with just the wardrobe in it. They are unable to get back to Narnia for a long time. But Lucy never forgets Narnia.
