1: Maria Mitchell was born on August 1, 1818 and died on June 28, 1889. Her nationality is American. She was the first American women astronomer.

2: Maria Mitchell was born in Nantucket, Massachusetts and died in Lynn, Massachusetts. She went to a private secondary school. Maria was excepted in an American academy of arts of sciences. She went to Vassar College.

3: One night she looked through her telescope and saw a comet. At 30 years old she then became the first American women to see a comet. Maria ran a state of the art observatory, that was built especially for her.

4: Maria Mitchell discovered a comet in 1847, she was later known as the first women to see a comet. At only sixteen she was a teaching assistant at Cyrus Peirce. On October 1, 1847, she saw a star 5* above the North Star.

5: The comet was later named after her. It was called "Miss.Mitchell's Comet." A lunar crater was also named after her. She was elected to the national women's hall of fame in 1994.She retired a year before she had died.

6: Achievements | Maria Mitchell was the first woman ever to be elected to be in the American Philosophy Society in the year 1869. | She was the first woman to be a member of the American Academy of Arts and Science in the year 1848. | Maria was also the first director of the observatory at Vassar College in the year 1865.
