 Italy | Venice

We took a water taxi from the airport to our hotel in Venice - or at least came close to our hotel. They dropped us off at St. Mark's Square and we still had to walk a couple of blocks to the hotel, The Villa Igea. And as you can see we had a few piece of luggage to carry.

Our hotel in Venice | This alleyway, directly off the main street, leads to our hotel. And to the right is a church across from the hotel. | Villa Igea

Once we settled into the hotel we went next door for lunch. | Then it's off to explore Venice!

We had our first of many glasses of wine that became known as "Wining Across Europe", at Florian's in St. Mark's Sq.

We went in search of the bar at the Hotel Canaletto that we saw on Sarah Brown's show on the Travel Channel. They serve wine in LARGE glasses, we got the regular size glass but had fun posing with the large glasses.

No matter how you look at it - that bell tower is leaning.

Time to board the ship! We took a water taxi from St Mark's Square to the ship - we arrived in style.

The water taxi brought us to the Port of Venice where we boarded the Azamara Quest, our home for the next twelve nights.

 Day Three in Venice

On our third day in Venice we took the Vaporetto to the far side of Venice and walked to the Rialto Bridge. This is away from the tourist area, it is where the Venicians live. | One of the first things we saw when we got off the Vaporetto was a casket being transferred from a water taxi to a hearse. This made Ellen's day.

"Wining Across Europe" at the Rialto Bridge | I guess the word didn't get over to Italy about Ellen and her pyrotechnics.

From the Rialto Bridge we took the Vaporetto back to the ship to begin our cruise.

 Did somebody "toot"?

 Leaving Venice

After bidding farewell to Venice it was time to uncork a bottle of wine in our room and enjoy a few "savories". As you can see we had a little trouble uncorking the wine.

We were hoping that someone on the ship could make a good Cosmo so we could continue the tradition we started on our first Mediterranean cruise of having a Cosmo before dinner. Wayan was our man! He made one as good as Ellen's and that's the standard that we go by. | No need to wait, let's start giving the casino our money right away.

The bell tower at St. George's Church is copied after the Venetian bell tower in St. Mark's Square

We then toured the palace built by the Roman Emperor Diocletian in the 4th century | Emperor Diocletian

More "Wining Across Europe". | He was selling shoelaces! | A tiny one way street.

We drove to Omis, a small town on the estuary of the Cetina River, and sailed to Radmanove Mlinice restaurant for lunch. | Fishing shanties.

Every morning as we left the ship, several senior officers were there to wish us a pleasant day. And every time we returned, the staff was there with cool towels and cold drinks to welcome us back.

The sun was rising when we arrived in Split. And now as we leave, the sun sinks behind the mountains, marking the end of another perfect day. | Pianist Mac Frampton.

 Kotor | Montenegro

Just before sunrise, we picked up the local pilot and entered the Fjord that leads to the City of Kotor, allowing us to see the small communities along the way come to life with the start of a new day.

As we were approaching Kotor, we passed the island of the "Lady of the Rock". As with tradition, the ship sounded its horn three times to say hello and the church responded by ringing its bell three times. The priest also came out to wave hello.

 St. George Island

From Kotor we traveled to the seaside resort of Budva.

 Cemetery in Budva.

A little gelato before heading back to Kotor. | They call this YaYa Beach. | Back to Kotor. | Wining Time!

The view from our balcony in Kotor. | Ellen "trying on" a new outfit.

As we sailed from Kotor, there was a "Montenegro Outdoor Buffet" served pool side. We sailed back through the fjord which offered specular views and a another beautiful sunset.
