1: Jasmin | About The Authors | Charlotte | Jasmin Lopez is one of the authors. She is a student at Eyer Middle School and is in 7th grade. Jasmin also particapated in an Eyer play. | One of the authors is Charlotte Levinson. She goes to Eyer Middle School and is in 7th grade. Charlotte also plays softball and basketball. | Jasmin would like to dedicate this book to her friends. | Charlotte would also like to dedicate this book to her friends. | Year: 2011

2: Rooms | There were about 25 rooms in a castle. | Some examples are..... | Solar | Main Bedroom | Dungeon

3: Throne Room | Great Hall | Dungeon | Solar | Gate House | Kitchen | The Gate House has towers, bridges and barriers built to protect the entrance of the castle. | The solar was made for sleeping and was a private quarter for the lords family. | The Dungeon was found in an underground room in one of the castle's towers.

4: Soldiers and Protection | Soldiers and knights protected the castle by pouring hot oil on the enemy, shooting at them with guns, cannons, bows and arrows and they used swords to defend on the ground. | Knight on horseback

5: Dates | Castles were built in 1066 because Normans were invading England, that way castles secured their authority. | A castle being built.

6: People | Just like the rooms, there were a lot of people who lived and worked in the castle. | A Medieval Castle

7: People | Some people who lived and worked in the castle... | Lord and lady | Knight | Cook | Taster | Jester | It took seven years of training to become a knight. | The tasters job was to taste food before the king ate it so it was not poisoned risking their own.

8: Lord and Lady | Some people who worked for the lord and lady were... | A Reeve, Bailiff, Serf, Peasant or Villein, Cottager and a Servant. | The lord and lady were the rulers of their people (peasants). When a war or enemies came they would run to the castle. The ladys' job was to run the castle when her husband was out in war. The lords' job was to run the castle his land and peasants.

9: Reeve is elected by peasants. | A Cottager is where a low class peasant lives. | Servants were house peasants who work in the lord and ladies' house. | A balliff is a important person who undertook management in the castle.

10: Vocab | Some vocab words are... Solar-Intended for sleeping and private courts for the lords family. Casemate- A room to store musketry or artillery. Accomadations- Various rooms for soldiers called barracks and mess halls. Under Croft- A plain room used for storage. | Vocabulary Kid

11: Essential Questions | Why were castles built? Castles were built to protect people from invaders and for the nobles to live in. What was life like in the castle? Life was different depending on who you are asking and their point of view. What are some key structures or defensive tactics used to protect a castle? Defensive tactics used to protect castles were moats, bows, arrows, swords, knights, and soldiers. | Question Mark

12: Lady Bieber's accout of an enemy attack. | One day as Lady Bieber was snipping roses, she looked up and saw enemies coming. She quickly ran to the castle to warn everyone. The peasants got the news and also began running to the castle. The soldiers and knights were ready to attack with their weapons ready. They poured the hot oil on the enemy to slow them down and hopefully kill them. Thanks to Lady Bieber, everyone was in the castle, protected. | Lady Bieber | Rose | Garden | Tulip | Tulip
