It's the name of a song... it's the line from a movie... and it's the reason we met... | I've Got the Power! | I'm not sure if I would have even noticed him if he hadn't done something so ridiculous. I was talking with friends and saw this guy walking across the room. The song 'I've Got the Power' was playing in the background. Suddenly he stopped and very dramatically mouthed the words I'VE GOT THE POWER! It caught me off guard and I burst out laughing. He saw me laugh, walked over to introduce himself, and the rest is history! =0)
About Melinda | by Dominic | Hi. I'm Melinda and I'm very happy that you're taking the time to read our profile! I am originally from Colorado and grew up in the mountains. I love to ski and enjoy the outdoors, and Dominic and I love our Colorado visits home to see my family (and his sister!). I was an elementary school teacher for 7 years. Now I work at a university, and I teach the instructors how to use technology in their classrooms. I miss my 3rd graders, but it's fun working on a college campus. When I'm not working, I love to read and do crossword puzzles. I also like to cook and watch old movies on Saturday afternoons. My favorite place in the world is sitting on my sister's deck on a chilly Colorado morning. The view is breathtaking, and the coffee always tastes amazing! | by Melinda | To me, cooking is more of a hobby than a chore. I love it! | View from my sister's deck in Colorado. | Skiing in Breckenridge. | Other couples use this phrase fairly loosely, but Melinda is truly my other half. When I met her, my life was changed forever. I found someone that made me laugh and laughed at all my jokes, and I really enjoyed spending time with her. She’s smart and has a great sense of humor, and we make a great team. Melinda is a good mix of home-body and socialite. She’s perfectly happy snuggling up on the couch on a Saturday afternoon and either watching a movie she’s already seen a hundred times or tackling this week’s New York Times crossword puzzle. On the other hand, she also really enjoys going out to dinner, trying new restaurants, and meeting up with friends. The most important thing that you can know about Melinda is that she’s a very genuine, loving, caring person and would be a fantastic mom for any child. She absolutely loves children, and her heart just melts for any child she happens to meet. She had a cat named Bailey that she loved so much and still misses years after she passed, so imagine how much love she would have for a child! | Me and my newborn niece, Shelby.
I knew very soon after meeting Dominic that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him. From the beginning, he made me laugh, and his easy-going personality brought a sense of peace and happiness to my life. Dominic is an honest and kind person, and he is ridiculously intelligent (especially when it comes to math!). He is truly ‘one of the good guys’. I think one of the most amazing things about Dominic is his ability to find the positive in any situation, regardless of how crazy or awful things might get. Dominic's caring personality and his sense of humor really shine around his family and friends. Everyone who meets him, loves him. Even if he wasn't my husband, I would still want him around. He's the kind of person you want as your friend. Dominic is laid-back and easy-going (unless he is watching a Penguins game!!). He may seem a little shy at first, but he is actually quite social and outgoing, once you get to know him. He will be a wonderful, hands-on father—the perfect balance of patience, love and laughter. | by Melinda | About Dominic | by Dominic | Hi! I’m Dominic. I’m an easy-going type of guy, and I like to have fun and find the humor in everyday life. I love to play and watch sports, with hockey being at the top of the list. In fact, I play, coach, and watch hockey every week, so you could say it’s a fairly big part of my life. I work as an actuary (I know, what’s that?) for a large consulting firm, and I enjoy it because it allows me to put my considerable math skills to good use. When I have spare time, I also love listening to music and playing guitar. I love hanging out with Melinda and our family and friends, especially my best bud Joe. I’ve been friends with Joe since we were about 5 years old. We grew up in the same neighborhood and still see and/or talk to each other on a daily basis. | Me in my hockey gear after winning the championship! | My best friend Joe and I at his wedding. | Skiing in Colorado. | Sitting across from Melinda at a restaurant.
Melinda: ...well, sort of an inside joke. After we moved in together, Dominic got stuck with the 'bed-making' duty each morning--a job he was unfamiliar with from his 'bachelor days'. =0) As a joke, he started messing with my teddy bear that I had always kept on the bed. When I'd get home from work, I'd find the bear wearing sunglasses, reading the newspaper, sitting upside-down...it was something different every day. Then one day, I got home to find Dominic already home. He said he wasn't feeling well, so he left work early. Little did I know that when I went to the bedroom, I'd find 'our' bear, holding a dozen, long-stemmed roses and a diamond engagement ring! It was the perfect way to propose! | Dominic: The two of us met over seven years ago and celebrated our three-year wedding anniversary last fall. It's been a crazy time--filled with a new home, new jobs, and new friends. It's been quite an adventure, but we've laughed and loved our way through it and, when it got bumpy, we held on and enjoyed the ride! We met while we were both vacationing with friends at the beach. To be honest, it wasn't exactly 'love at first sight', but there was definitely a mutual attraction. We spent the afternoon talking and getting to know each other and decided to exchange phone numbers at the end of the day. I proposed unexpectedly one afternoon in July. To an outsider, it may have seemed unromantic. But there was a story... | How We Met
We are fortunate to have wonderful neighbors, who have also become our good friends. You will often find us all sitting on our front porches, talking, laughing and enjoying the evening. | Over two and a half years ago, we moved to the Pittsburgh area to be closer to family. We fell in love with a beautiful Victorian home and now live in a wonderful urban neighborhood where we can walk to stores, restaurants, parks, and even our church. Our home is very spacious and filled with lots of comfortable furniture and pictures of family and friends. Our favorite room is our TV/game room on the third floor. It's the smallest room in the house, but it's the coziest. It's been designated 'Dominic's Room' so it's filled with pictures of the Steelers, the Penguins and Terrible Towels. | Our Home | This is Parker, the newest addition to our 'front-porch' friends. | Pic of Dom's Room | Our Neighbors | a | This is a Photoshop picture of our 'soon-to-be' baby room!
Dominic: Mel's family is also a lot of fun (and a little loud), but much smaller than mine. They all live in Colorado and we fly back to visit them a few times each year. We really enjoy each other's company, especially hanging out with our niece, Shelby. Mel and I take her skiing and ice skating when we're in town, and she and I play lots of video games. Much to Melinda's dismay, I think I may be Shelby's new favorite relative! Melinda and I are fortunate that our families really like each other and get along well. We always spend time together when Melinda's family comes to visit. Her niece, Shelby, calls my mom one of her 'best friends' (next to me, of course!) =0) | Melinda: The first time I met Dominic's family, I was completely overwhelmed!. It was crowded and loud and like no other Thanksgiving I had ever experienced! The table was so long that it actually started in the dining room and ended in the living room! I love watching Dominic interact with his family--especially his two sisters. To them, Dominic will always be their big brother. When they are together, they still tease each other like they did when they were kids. Both sisters still call Dominic when they need advice, and he always seems to have the right answer. He never judges or blames. He just listens and does what he can to help. It is one of his qualities that I think will make him a good father. | Family...
...and Friends | Our friends are an important part of our lives. Even though everyone is married now and starting to have children, we all get together a lot--babies and all!
1 We are mature and responsible, but we are truly kids at heart. We love Christmas, fireworks, amusement parks and anything else that's FUN! 2 We love the change of seasons and celebrate with visits to the pumpkin patch, movies in the park, ice skating, skiing...you name it. 3 We love the traditions of the holidays. Each year we carve pumpkins and visit the tree farm to pick out our Christmas tree. 4 We enjoy life and each other. If it is a beautiful summer evening, we leave the dishes in the sink and head outdoors (usually for ice cream)! 5 We love to laugh...at the TV, at movies, at each other and even at ourselves! | Ten Things to Know About Us
6 We have a wonderful network of family and friends. Everyone is very supportive and excited about our decision to adopt. 7 We have a happy and stable relationship. We love and respect one another as a couple and as individuals. 8 Our religion is an important part of our daily lives. We attend church every Sunday and try to live good, generous, Christian lives. 9 We have wanted to have a child for a very long time. We have discussed, planned and prayed. We are ready to become a family! 10 We will give our child the love, patience and support he or she needs to grow up secure, healthy and happy. | Why We Are Choosing Adoption | We always wanted to have a family and started trying soon after we were married. After years of doctor's appointments and treatments, we discovered that we would never be able to carry a pregnancy to term. It was devastating to hear, but it made us appreciate the gift of life more than ever. We feel blessed to have the opportunity to begin our family through adoption.
Dear Birthparent(s), Thank you for taking the time to learn more about us and our lives. We understand that you have a very important decision to make, and we can only imagine how difficult that must be. We admire your courage and selflessness, and we have the greatest respect for the choice you have made. We are truly honored that you would consider us for your child's adoptive parents. We hope that this profile captured the love, laughter, and happiness that we already share with one another. We look forward to learning more about you! Dominic and Melinda
