Mica John | You were born July 7, 2009 at 4:13 pm. Your due date wasn't until August 26, 2009. Due to mommy's water breaking you were born almost 2 months early. | You weighed 4 lbs 2 ozs and was 16 3/4 in long. Being born so early you had to spend a little over 3 weeks in the NICU so doctors could keep a close watch on you. | 1 | st | Photo

Mommy/daddy and you | 1 | st | Family Photo | We didn't get to hold you right away since you were so small. Mommy finally got to hold you late that night after you were born and daddy had to wait a whole day before getting to hold you. | When we did get to hold you we had to kangaroo with you. This is when you do skin to skin contact which helps to keep your temperature right. For about the first week mommy and daddy had to take turns holding you every other visit. We would try and visit you 2-3 times a day.

Being in the hospital for so long mommy and daddy made sure to get lots of pictures of you. You changed every day. From the day you were born up to a few days before you got to go home you needed a feeding tube. You didn't know how to eat out of a bottle yet so you slowly learned how. While you were learning the nurses would feed you through the tube. About three days before you were able to leave you started eating from a bottle only. You were also hooked to monitors that monitored your oxygen level, heart beat, and temperature level. You had to have an Apnia monitor when you went home so mommy and daddy knew you were still breathing. You had that until about 3 months old. | 1 | st | Smile | 1 | st | Bottle

Being in the NICU, only mommy and daddy were able to hold you for the first week. Then after that the doctors said you were stable enough to be held by others but only by one person per visit.

Your Grandmas and Grandpas sure were excited when they finally got to hold you.

To be able to go home you had lots of things to learn. First you had to breath with no help of the CPAP (it gave you oxygen). Secondly you had to regulate your own temperature, no help from the heated incubators. Third, you had to learn how to breath, swallow, and suck all at once. This was the biggest challenge of all. You weren't able to go home until you took all your feeding from a bottle for three days in a row. Lastly you had to pass the car seat test. The doctors made you sit in your car seat for one hour and you couldn't have any alarms from your monitors go off. You were sent home with an Apnia Monitor just to make sure everything was going good.

That day you went boating at Candlewick Lake, | Tried out your new crib, | Played in your bouncy, | and Met Zeus and Zena. | August 1st 2009, you finally got to come home.! | It was a busy homecoming for you.

There were a lot of family and friends that couldn't wait to meet you. They all fell in love right away with you. Some people were scared to hold you because you were so tiny. But eventually they couldn't wait any longer to hold you.

When you weren't crying or eating you were sleeping. But on the occasion you would share one of your gummy smiles with us. At this age Mommy and Daddy had to wake you up at night every three hours to feed you. But you always went back to sleep when done eating. | 1 M O N T H
