S: Mining

What Is Mining? | Mining is when we dig into the earth to harvest minerals, and the coal to help generate electricity which you will learn later on. | How Does It Work? | There are four types of mining that the miners work on to make getting ores, minerals and coals easier to get | Surface Mining | Surface mining is when they remove layers and layers of the soil on the top of the earth and dirt on the top layer to retrieve the Minerals and coals underneath the area

Open Pit Mining | Open Pit Mining is when the miners remove a giant amount of soil, dirt, etc to create a giant pit to extract minerals and coal from the one area giant large pit. | Strip Mining | Strip Mining is when they remove long strip of the surface dirt, soil, etc to retrieve the contents below it which is used when the contents are thought to be in rows

Mountaintop Mining | Mountaintop Mining is used for when the want to find coal, when the miners finds a good mountain, they cut out all forms of plant life. Then they remove the soil, then explode the mountains to reach the inside of the mountains | They take the soil, rock, dirt, etc and place them into a valley to fill the gaps. However, this means they don't repair the mountains.

An example this mining mining subject is the mountain top mining, the set up the dynamite around or inside the mountain to explode and make it easier for the people to harvest the minerals inside of the mountain. They don't often use dynamite, but its a more useful and quicker way.

Impacts It Has On The Environment | Short Term Effects | Some of the short term effects it has on the environment is the vegetation they remove, when they want to mine, they remove the vegetation to retrieve what they want from the area, the vegetation can regrow after the miners leave the mining site. However, this only happens when they do ; surface, open pit and strip mining.

Long Term Effects | Some long term effects is the toxic chemicals they find in the rocks and minerals. The toxic can raise the acidic levels of the water because of wind or rain blows or washes the toxic into different areas and it can continuously move around thanks to wind and water thus making unable for remediation, also when they do mountain top mining, the mountains cant be recovered

Wild Life And People | How this will effect the wildlife and the people is the toxic the rocks produce will poison the water and then poison the creatures that drink from it. This helps families to because it creates more land for them to live on.

Concerns of disposing | The way the people dispose of the mining waste is by either dumping it into the pond so it doesn't contaminate the air and so it dissolves into smaller denser particles. Another way of disposing the waste is then used with cement to fill up gaps, pits, etc...

Something that is in connection with coal mining is that when is when people want to generate energy and electricity, the mine coals and use them by heating them to evaporate the the water , turning the turbine and generating electricity as shown above`
