FC: 2013 | Sisters Community Church Mission Trip to Managua, Nicaragua
Nineteen people from Sisters, Oregon left for Managua, Nicaragua on October 29, 2013, to minster to the people and to invite them to the "Festival por la Vida." Seven days later they returned, changed forever by their experiences. This is a glimpse of what God did. "It was by faith that they obeyed when God called...without knowing where they were going." Hebrews 11:8 | Managua, Nicaragua | At the airport on the way home | Compiled by Cleone Davis 12/17/2013 (revised)
Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit, says the LORD. Zechariah 4:6 | These nineteen were joined by 62 other Americans. Young people to senior citizens were represented. Most had no idea what they would do, but were willing to be used of the LORD in the way He desired. Ten year old Jack Parkins wanted to be part of the team, but he was too young. He gave his savings to sponsor buses to take kids to the festival, but he wanted to do more. He spearheaded a project to encourage others to help and 56 buses were sponsored! In Nicaragua, over 400 churches were uniting, training their people, fasting and praying for God to move among the people of their country,
Volunteers Commissioned Small groups and the church. prayed for and sent out the 19 volunteers from Sisters .. "After prayer, they laid their hands on them and sent them out." Acts 13:3 | Roberts fellowship group prays for Susan Sandberg Beth Moore study group prays for Cindy, Shay, and Wendy
Serve Teams These 81 people were divided into seven different serve teams that went out across the city to elementary schools, middle schools, universities, and orphanages. Each team performed a dynamic wordless skit that powerfully illustrated the life-changing message of the Gospel in spite of language barriers. Others shared their testimonies with the help of translators and invited each group to the festival.

House of Hope "Casa de la Esparanza" is a home for girls and young women, as well as their children, who have been rescued from prostitution. About 125 women's lives are being rebuilt from the devastating effects of prostitution. "I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my sisters, you were doing it to me!" Matthew 25:40
At the House of Hope around 150 boys and girls eagerly participated in various activities, such as playing soccer and hitting piñatas. After a few games, they heard a Gospel presentation designed just for kids and were invited to begin a relationship with Jesus Christ. Approximately 70 kids responded and prayed to receive Jesus as their Lord and Savior! | April, the director, and her husband vacationed in Nicaragua many years ago. They were burdened about the the number of prostitutes on the street with no hope. They returned and started the House of Hope. They teach the girls and women new skills so they can provide for themselves, and they teach them the hope found in Jesus.

 Spending time with the kids
Dedicating a Well Mike Silva International bought the materials and the people of the village built the wells. Our men's group in Sisters hosted a dinner to raise money to help pay for the expenses.
Two communities received wells. The blue domes on the adjoining page are on the roof of the building with the well. Jesus replied, "If you only knew the gifty God has for you, you would ask me, and I would give you living water." John 4:10 | The home at the right is typical of the homes in these villages.
Mike shared the Gospel with 200 people at a meeting with the National Police. With only ten minutes to speak, he gave a message about the power of Jesus to transform souls. Over half the audience indicated that they’d made a decision to follow Jesus Christ. | Mike met with top Nicaraguan military officials. When asked about the purpose of coming to Nicaragua, he told them our message is one of hope for the entire nation. This hope is not found in a single type of church or denomination but in the peace and love only Jesus Christ can bring. | Preparation for the Festival
Mike and the team also spent some time spreading the word about the festival through national television and radio. Mike used each interview to invite people to put their faith in Jesus and emphasize the importance of having a personal relationship with Him. | People walked through the festival site daily, praying for the event coming on the weekend. Please pray for the churches in Managua as they continue to share the Good News throughout the city. Pray for the hearts of those who came to the festival on Friday and Saturday night. Pray God will continue to use His Word in people’s lives.
 Ministering at Silvio's church
Diana Diana (above right) was the interpreter for one of the groups. She was born in Nicaragua, but raised in Southern California. She felt she needed to go back "home". In Nicaragua, she worked in a building overlooking the festival site. As she listened to the secular concerts, she prayed that some day there would be a group that came which would honor the name of Jesus. Over six years later this "Festival por la Vida" came as an answer to her prayer! Her cousin, also an interpreter, is playing the keyboard in the picture at far left. The older lady (above) is his mother. The three of them began the church. The older lady is the Mother Pastor. Approximately 70 people attend. The place is too small and they are looking for a new one. A possibility is renting a room in one of the big hotels. Cindy Bell and Rae Scott are continuing to minister to them. Pray for our involvement as a "sister" church.
in this family | WE HONOR | Festival for Life "Festival por la Vida" Mike Silva delivered a simple yet compelling message focused on the power of redemption. “Some of you may be thinking, ‘I’ve done too many bad things for Jesus to accept me,’” he told the crowd. “I’m here to tell you that He already knows everything about you, and He loves you and wants a relationship with you.” He urged the audience to enter a relationship with Jesus Christ then and there.
When Mike gave the invitation to accept Jesus Christ, people across the crowd responded with raised hands, bowed heads, and huddled groups of prayer. The new believers were able to pray with a trained counselor or text in their decisions to receive follow-up from a local church. | The staff is able to collect their contact information and give it to a local pastor or church leader. The local church is then able to disciple these new believers in their first steps with Jesus!
Pray that each person who responded will see a change in their life and become connected with a body of believers! | Pray that the churches will reach out with hearts of love and open arms to receive these believers!
