Just another day in clinic... | Playing with the children was physically exhausting, and working with patients as a medical provider in the clinic proved to be emotionally exhausting, but exhaustion was a small price to pay for what we got in return.
1st commandment of Clinic: Don't pick up a child you ever plan to put back down | While we try to teach children all about life, children teach us what life is all about..
3rd day of Clinic | A memorable case for Meredith and Dr. Milewski: A 9 year old covered in a re-occuring body wide rash. Upon questioning we realized the boy was with his neighbor with whom he lives because his parents both died from medical problems associated with HIV. Despite being scared, he agreed to be tested for HIV and was so brave. I conducted my first of many HIV tests that were positive that day, but thankfully this child was HIV negative and I will never forget his smile upon hearing the news. | A great doctor ...and an even better Dad
Making Glasses in Arts & Crafts | "In the eyes of a child you will see... the world as it should be."
Behind the scenes... | "Act as if what you do makes a difference. It does."
Mollyrose Milewski PA-S Working "behind the scenes" in triage, and pharmacy may initially appear to be a less exciting job, but this was not the case. Not only are these positions crucial in the medical clinic, but we learned we were valued team members with so much to offer. It turns out that all our studying in PA school paid off, and I surprised myself with how much I knew. How to take vital signs, take a concise patient history, and even write prescriptions came naturally to the PA students, and gave us confidence in all the work we put in during school. The amount of long & confusing medication names and their uses from pharmacology class we were able to recall from memory amazed every team member. The PA students were constantly remembering dosing, key drug interactions, counseling points and other facts. For once, we were being looked to for answers about medical questions...and we ACTUALLY knew the answers. It was so great to see that all of our hard work and hours in the library was well worth it!
