Plot Summary: Tessa is an enthusiastic eight year-old girl who is excited about her baptism day. It was going to be her PERFECT day – the day she hoped to become perfect, like Jesus. As she describes the details of her day, it becomes obvious that her circumstances are less than perfect, yet Melissa remains optimistic. Finally, when her positive attitude falters, Melissa finds her “perfect day” in ruin. Through the comforting teachings of her mother, Melissa learns of a perfect truth that frees her from her imperfect self.
Through the eyes of a young girl, and her desire for perfection, readers of all ages are reminded of the eternal significance of the Atonement of Jesus Christ in their daily lives. Melissa’s story is a reflection of our own; though we strive for perfection, we often fall short. Melissa’s enthusiasm is contagious. Her simple, yet profound faith inspires hope in Him whose PERFECT gift brings promise of a PERFECT day.
This story based on my own baptismal experience at age 8.
