FC: my slave trade project
1: As you can see in these pictures the boats were very cramped. The effect of this is sickness spread easily and quickly. Each man had about 18 in of room to sit. People were sweating, vomiting, urinating and defecating from fear and the movement of the ship.
2: The smell was overpowering and many fainted or died from the stale air. There were tubs at one end of the hold which were used as toilets and and barely emptied.children often drown after falling in the tubs the conditions of the boat were so bad many just wanted to die. but because of the net were unable to jump over board.
3: by the time they got to the west Indies may slaves had died but many also survive. men would come check out the slave and make sure they were healthy. the slaves were put in to pens like animals. then the men rushed to the pens to pick which slave they wanted.
