Welcome We are Nicole and Kirk, a happily married couple excited to adopt our first child and begin our family. We want nothing more than to become parents, sharing our love for each other and life itself with a son or daughter. Please take a moment to read a little about our lives together and the life we are able to provide your child. You won't be disappointed! | Nicole with niece, Jackie at Nicole and Kirk's engagement party | Kirk and Jackie enjoying a cuddle before Fourth of July Fireworks
We cannot try to imagine what you are experiencing as you make your adoption plan for your baby. Kirk and I want you to know that if you choose us as your son or daughter’s adoptive parents, you will be honored in our family. We would like to not only celebrate your child’s birthday, but also their adoption day as a way to remember and honor the very courageous decision you are making. | Building Our Family
If you so desire, we would embrace an open adoption with pictures, emails, phone calls and visits. But most importantly, we want you to know that your child would grow up in a home with two people who love each other very much and would love your child with all of our hearts.
Building Our Family | We have wanted to be parents for a very long time. After getting married, we struggled with difficult fertility treatments that did not end in successful pregnancies. One fertility treatment unfortunately ended in Nicole being in the intensive care unit recovering from complications. Nicole has Type I diabetes (she was diagnosed when she was 9) and pregnancy is a big medical risk that we are not comfortable taking. After talking with each other and family, adoption was such a natural decision for us and we cannot wait to build our family!
Meet Nicole I am 31 years old and grew up as an only child in a very loving household. Thanksgiving and Christmas tables were small but filled with love and family. I was raised in a northwest suburb of Chicago. Until I was six, my maternal grandmother cared for me while my parents were at work. When I entered the first grade, my mother decided to be a stay-at-home mom for several years. Girl Scouts, flute lessons, ballet classes, basketball and softball games and yearly family vacations helped to shape my childhood. After high school I went on to college to become a teacher. I am a special education teacher with a Master’s Degree in reading. I have worked with all different ages of children with various disabilities. Currently, I work as an elementary inclusion facilitator. I enjoy helping children with disabilities access the general curriculum and every day brings new and interesting challenges. | Nicole at age two reading a book upside down | Nicole and her rabbit, Princess visit an Autism Kindergarten
I love to spend time in nature and be with my dog and cat. I also enjoy reading, and on weekends can be found curled up with the most recent children’s books. | Nicole with her parents in Mexico | Favorite Childhood Memory: As I was growing up, my family's vacations were always of the road trip variety. We rarely went to the same place; visiting locations such as Door County, St. Louis, Mackinac Island, and Niagara Falls. When I was 13, my parents surprised me with a trip to Acapulco, Mexico. It was my first trip to an ocean and I distinctly remember being super surprised that the salt water actually tasted 'salty'! | Nicole can never pass up a petting zoo!
Kirk Describes Nicole Nicole is the most caring, patient, and loving person I know. She has been a terrific wife and will be an even better mother. She is constantly thinking about how to improve herself and help others at the same time. From taking our dog, Hogan, to nursing homes to brighten the day of their residents, to spending her lunch break helping her students with homework, she never stops smiling. Her students and our nieces adore her! I can’t imagine life without her, and I’m thankful everyday that she said, “Yes!” | Nicole and Jackie with newborn niece Katelyn.
Meet Kirk I am 33 years old and had the good fortune of growing up with an older brother and a large, close-knit extended family. Holidays and birthdays were always (and still are) celebrated with my parents, grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles. I grew up in the northwest suburbs of Chicago, enjoying Boy Scouts, soccer and swimming. My parents were strong believers in family road trips, so we spent summers traveling around the country in our pop-up camper. | From left to right, Kirk's Dad, Mom, Kirk and older brother Jason
After moving to Arizona to be with Nicole (while she finished college), I found a job as an office assistant for a mortgage company. Pretty soon I worked my way up to become a loan processor. It wasn’t too long before I realized that I had the talent to make a career of this profession. Once we moved back to Chicago to be closer to family, I found a job as a loan officer and have been with the same company ever since. | One of my favorite memories was on a backpacking trip to New Mexico. We were hiking through the mountains for 7 days, and on one of the last days we got to an opening and were able to look down on a tornado in the valley. I had never seen one in person before, let alone looking down on it! | Kirk's Favorite Childhood Memory
Nicole Describes Kirk Kirk is a 6’6” teddy bear, with a heart even bigger than his size! Kirk is a soft spoken guy who comes across as shy before you get to know him. Family is a super priority in Kirk’s life. He loves being an uncle and cannot wait to be a dad. Kirk will make an amazing father. He will be able to share with our children so many of his talents; everything from his love of math and science (he loves numbers) to how to change the oil in a car and his passion for macaroni and cheese! Kirk has been my rock for the past 14 years. He has been by my side during rough times and happy times. He is an amazing man and I am proud to have him as my husband. | Kirk with niece, Jackie play at the Children's Museum | Nicole and Kirk hold newborn niece Katelyn
High School Sweethearts We met in high school in 1996 when Nicole was 15 and Kirk was 17. Before our first date, Kirk tried to impress Nicole by ‘undenting’ her garbage can (it had been run over by a truck)! Nicole didn’t seem too interested in Kirk at first, but agreed to go on a date with him (mainly because he was a senior with a car!). We quickly became inseparable. Nicole soon realized Kirk had much more to offer than just a ride around town . Kirk knew he had found the right girl to make him smile. | Nicole's Favorite High School Moment with Kirk: I felt so special being invited to Kirk's senior prom. It was so much fun dressing up in my princess gown, eating a fancy dinner, going to an after party downtown and finally ending the weekend with friends. Kirk looked so cute in a tuxedo! | Kirk's Favorite High School Moment with Nicole: During the spring and summer Nicole and I would go "storm chasing" whenever a thunderstorm would come through. It sounds a little silly, but it was always a lot of fun trying to keep up with the storm and watching the lightning.

Going to the Chapel and Happily Ever After Kirk went to college first, leaving Nicole to finish the last two years of high school. Nicole left for a different university two years later. Despite long distances and long drives, we stayed together. Long distance phone plans and chatting online helped us stay in touch. In 2002, Nicole transferred to a university in Arizona and Kirk joined her soon there after. We have lived together ever since. In June 2008, Kirk took Nicole on a trip to Clearwater Beach. We had vacationed at the same spot earlier in our relationship. On the back of a dinner cruise ship, Kirk got down on one knee and asked Nicole to be his wife. Through tears of happiness, she said yes to his proposal and their wedding took place in July 2009
Home Sweet Home We bought our first home literally one week before our wedding. We had been looking for over a year before finding the perfect home. Our house is a 5 bedroom/3bathroom colonial and we love the suburban/rural feel of our community. Our neighbors are warm and friendly, inviting us to backyard BBQ’s and family picnics. There is a beautiful 3 mile walking path that surrounds the community and the local elementary school is just down the street. Although we live in the suburbs, we enjoy outings to the city to visit the Art Institute and Shedd Aquarium and trips to more rural areas for camping, boating or for just a low key nature walk.
All in the Family Nicole’s family lives a short drive away and they are super excited about becoming first time grandparents. Nicole is especially close with her mom who sometimes volunteers to help Nicole in her classroom. Kirk’s parents live in Michigan and come back to visit several times a month for family birthdays and holidays. Kirk’s brother and sister-in-law have two young daughters. Our oldest niece, Jacquelyn (Kirk is Jackie’s Godfather) is 7 years old and our youngest niece, Katelyn (Nicole is Katie’s Godmother) is almost two. Two years ago, we took on the honor of hosting the big Thanksgiving dinner with 28 family members around the table. Christmas celebrations are held at Kirk’s grandparents’ house. Christmas morning begins with Kirk’s grandfather preparing a homemade Swedish pancake breakfast (enough to feed 25+). All of the kids open their presents in the living room and everyone joins in a full out wrapping paper war. We then enjoy a White Elephant gift exchange, where everyone is guaranteed to go home with something funny but completely useless!

Other Members of the Household We currently share our home with our cat and dog, Poe and Hogan. Poe is an 8 year old Tabby who loves to beat Hogan to the door when guests arrive. He is a friendly cat who is happiest when the house is full of kids. Hogan is a 6 year old Beagle mix. He was a rescue who had been abused by his formers owners. With time and some trust building, Hogan has blossomed into a wonderful pet. Hogan is a trained therapy dog, visiting nursing homes and hospices with Nicole on weekends. He brings smiles to the faces of the patients he visits. We’re definitely an animal-loving family. During the summers, the entire extended family (dogs included) get together to play and have fun.
