4: Paul Monette. Coaches Corner! | I (Coach Paul) started playing hockey at the ripe age of 5 years old, following eagerly in my older brothers footsteps. We grew up in Mound, MN and I played for the Mound Westonka Mohawks (later to become the white hawks). My favorite part of playing hockey, is the team play and ability to outwork and out think your opponents on the ice. One of my signature moves, was to skate the puck behind the other teams net, then stop quickly and fake back in the direction I came from. Most of the time, I would get the goalie to slide back to the other side of the net, and then I would continue skating around the net for an uncontested “wrap-around”. Some of my fondest memories were tournament play, packing up the gear and heading out of town for a weekend tournament with my teammates/friends. We would play mini-hockey in the hallways of the hotel, hangout in the pool and hot tubs, and just have a really good time. I was also lucky enough to play a scrimmage in-between periods at a North Star's game, it was pretty incredible to play in front of 20,000 people, and it's a feeling I’ll never forget. Why I Coach – I choose to coach hockey, because I still have a passion for the game, and it allows me to pass on the knowledge and skills I’ve obtained over the years! My favorite part of coaching, is that it allows me to bond and spend quality time with my son, doing something that we both love - PLAYING HOCKEY!!
