There once was a little girl named Ozuma. Ozuma as a little girl saw a bright future for her self, but at age 11 her greatest dreams were cut short due to a horrible event that left her unable to walk.
"Papa, can you come with me to watch the children as they play?", Ozuma asked. "Yes my dear, I will go with you to watch the children play", said Adaeze. So Ozuma and her father, Adaeze, went to the park to watch the children play.
In Ozuma's country, Chad, girls and women were not allowed to go anywhere without a man to accompany them or their permission. However, Ozuma wanted to watch the children play. She asked her father if he could come with her as she watched.
Being as how Ozuma couldn't walk properly, she had been given special crutches to use. Ozuma still wasn't completely used to crutches, so while she was about to sit down, a little child was running and did not see Ozuma. The little child bumped into Ozuma with an oomf!
"Little boy, watch were you are going," said Adeaze. "No, father it is my fault. I was in the way", said Ozuma. "I am very sorry about bumping into your daughter. May I ask why is it that your daughter cannot walk?", asked the boy.
"Have you no manners little boy?", exclaimed Adaeze. "Father it is okay. I will tell him of my story. Little boy what is your name?" "My name is Blessing", said the little boy. "Very good. Blessing I will tell my story of how i cannot walk. It begins one day when I was walking home from the market."
"The night was as dark as coal tending in a fire. The wind slightly whistled through the trees, but I kept walking. My older brother was with me but he kept a distance from me. "From time to time there would be a rustling in the bushes. I would ignore it, thinking it was a night creature or an insect.
"Little did I know that I was being watched very closely. Not by human eyes but by the eyes of a monster. A monster that knows no morals or common sense. A monster that only acted on impulse." Blessing listened in awe. You could see the chills reverberate up his spine, while Ozuma continued her story. "The monster jumped out of the bushes and snarled.
"The monster snarled and howled and spit. All I could do was to stand there with fear, helplessness and disgust. "My brother tried to run to me as fast as he could, but it was too late. The monster ran me over and stepped on my legs shattering every bone in my legs. The monster sprinted away." All Blessing could do was sit there in terror. "Do not worry Blessing. This beast has been trapped and gives us no more trouble", said Ozuma with a bright comforting smile.
As Blessing got up to leave, he turned to ask one more question. "What was this terrible monster?", he asked with a shudder in his voice. Ozuma replied,"This monster was my Uncle." With grief and sadness in her voice, she took a pause. "You will understand when you are older. Now go run along and play with your friends." Blessing ran off to join his friends.
