FC: Baking Art & Verse

For Tingting...whose friends love her even more than they love her sweets

there once was a girl named tingting who was extremely caring she made exquisite sweets and shared them with friends as treats so yummy nobody could resist eating by dana wu

Pear Frangipane by Michelle Bengtson So fruity, tutty fruity. You must be healthy with your cascading pears can I really eat this work of art with its perfectly even bottom crust? Oh yes I can I think you are still warm from the oven The slimy flesh and crunchy cake intermingle in my mouth with every forkful You delight me, oh almost-midnight snack.

Diplomat Cake -- a haiku by Kyle Oppenheim buttercream icing layered with booze soaked pastry ah, diplomat cake!

Bread Pudding by Michelle Bengtson I don't get it. It sounds like the two shouldn't be mixed. Bread is for sandwiches, pudding is smooth, sweet, and creamy Yet bread pudding is something magnificent Like a cross between french toast and coffee cake.

It is a beautiful day in Paris. The warmth of the sun on my back feels good in this cool breeze. The people sitting in the cafes and outside on the sidewalks are laughing and smiling as they chat and enjoy each other's company. I can smell the coffee...and buttery croissants. I pass by a patisserie along the way. The big front window displays the treats. A mother holds her daughter's hand as they gaze in the window so I stop. In the center of the display, is an absolute work of art: an edible masterpiece with such delicate beauty how can human hands create such a thing? An angel must have placed it here. An open door welcomes me into the cool shop. Resistance? out of the question Upon entering, I find: a group of happy people :-) all preparing to share in the delight. And a piece is offered to me! (At this moment I know that life is good, and that I'm a lucky man.) People sample the first bite. pause There are murmurs of happiness and (in perfect French) I agree with everyone in the main kitchen about how wonderful it tastes. wait. did I say "main kitchen"? where am I? | - Surreal - by Joe Ruff

What is this sugary goodness you have coaxed into my mouth? I have never seen anything like it with almondy layers and jelly lanes lined with puffs I savor every dainty taste that suprises me with every bite how tricky this sweet treat by Michelle Bengtson

I'm sitting in South America, and e-mails of pastries pass before my eyes but I'm thousands of miles away and I know they'll be gone in seconds. She promises me something special for when I come back, and I know I have no authority to make such demands, but she better deliver! by David Friedland

 Piece of cake

Palmier oh Palmier you make me want to steal away and horde you to myself no ears of elephant have ever heard your fame as I serenade it now your Costco cousins cannot match your buttery and crispy ways oh that I would learn French and meet more pastries like you. by michelle bengtson

It was a Sunday afternoon When banana bread came to my door It was moist and still warm With the right amount of nuts and other crunchies inside Soothing to eat After a fun weekend of dancing It wasn't made for a grade for class But I give it an extra credit A+ by Michelle Bengtson

All morning long, in the corner of my screen the emails flow: "requirements needed..." "bug filed..." "meeting cancelled..." "a quick question..." "charlotte russe in the main kitchen." Oh my God! I look up - I look around. Did anyone see it yet? ever so nonchalantly: remove my headphones place them on my desk inch my chair back looking... searching.. There! there is one! a scooter :-) (I might just make it this time.) it is leaning against PA's desk I move slowly toward the scooter closer... closer... and, I've got it! Time to spread the news: "Tingting Treats!!" and off I go cruising through the open office, I see the crowd rising from their seats almost in unison and moving toward the kitchen together as one happy, grateful unit But I'm ok. I know I've made it. | - The Dash - by Joe Ruff

L'empire des sens by Pierre-Alexandre Masse She appears, magnificent My eyes lay on this delicate beauty The attraction is irresistible I succumb My hand softly touches her shape Caresses her tender skin I can hear her breathing The rustling of her crisp She is calling for more Her scents float toward me Suave and rich, she destroys my last resistance My mind is racing Thinking, dreaming of what is to come My desires grow I need to kiss her, to bite her gently I give in Her sweet taste is pure pleasure She is mine and I devour her Reaching nirvana She is my charlotte russe, for ever.

Why do I bake? I like to feed people. It can be something simple. I still think it's worthwhile. Food simply makes me smile. by Ellen Zeng
