BC: People shouldn't use pesticides. It harms everyone. Or at least don't use it that much.
1: What is it? | It's when farmers use these to protect their crops. Some pesticides are insecticides and herbicides. People at home often use insecticides to keep their lawns and gardens good and healthy.
2: How Does It Work? | Chemicals that come out from pesticides are called residues. When the chemicals go into the ground and then goes inside a water supply, leaching might happen. Leaching is when the soluble parts of a substance are separated out. This whole process is called percolation. Pesticides can move into water easily.
3: What Is A Real Life Example of it? | An example of this is people who go out in the gardens to work a lot. They wouldn't want any bugs or pests on their crops, so they would spray pesticides on them, to protect their crops from dying or being eaten.
4: What are some of the short term effects? | Some short term effects are : | - headaches - dizziness - skin and eye problems - barfing
5: What are some long term effects? | Some long term effects from using pesticides are : | - asthma - cancer - memory problems - nausea - brain disorders - death - babies before birth may have growth issues
6: How does it affect wild life and people? | It can affect people by giving us health problems and poison us. It could give health problems to animals too or even death. It has affected the wild life by having fewer kinds of living things. Plants and animals living in an area with pesticides are all gone, or left.
7: How safe is this method? | Pesticides are not safe, because it could harm the environment and ourselves. Even though it might help the farmers or anyone kill pests to protect their crops, it's not safe.
