FC: Pikes Peak by Bike

Merry Christmas mom! I know you truly enjoyed your bike ride down Pikes Peak in July 2011 so I'm creating this photo book so you can continue to relive the experience through pictures. Enjoy!

For mom's birthday and Mother's Day gift in 2011 I arranged a bike ride down America's mountain, Pikes Peak, in Colorado Springs, CO.

The trip was through Challenge Unlimited. They handled everything. We arrived around 7:00 a.m. in the morning and enjoyed breakfast while they loaded the bikes onto the vans.

We then took off and headed up the Pikes Peak Highway, a 20-mile ride, to the top of Pikes Peak.

Pikes Peak's elevation is 14,110 ft. Our trip was in July but it was pretty chilly at the top. | We arrived at the summit before the first group of cog railway guests.

There is the cog making its way up...

...and two other ways to ascend.

After a safety talk, helmet fitting and bathroom break the descent begins.

We made multiple stops along the way.

We saw five different life zones each having its own climate, wildlife and vegetation.

A Picture is Worth 1,000 Words | The switch backs we coasted down.

Cherish The Ones You Love | Snow in July.

We had trouble trying to think of the last time we participated in an activity just the two of us so this was a great bonding experience.

 Crystal Reservoir

 Part of the group.

View of Highway 24 looking east.

Cheers! | The descent took us to the Wines of Colorado for lunch.
