1: Poetry Definitions ABC Poems - An ABC poem has a series of lines that create a mood, picture, or feeling. Lines are made up of words and phrases. The first word of line 1 begins with an A, the first word of line 2 begins with a B etc. Free Verse - Verse that has neither regular rhyme nor regular meter. Free verse often uses cadences rather than uniform metrical feet. Haiku - A Japanese poem composed of three unrhymed lines of five, seven, and five syllables. Haiku often reflect on some aspect of nature. Odes - A lyric poem of some length, usually of a serious or meditative nature and having an elevated style and formal stanzaic structure. Blank Verse - Poetry that is written in unrhymed iambic pentameter. Shakespeare wrote most of his plays in blank verse.

10: Odes Ode to Homework My head hurts, as a sleepy headache strikes a nerve , as though of swords had struck my brain Oh, oh, when will this be over?
