S: WILDE FAMILY REUNION 2011
FC: "Our memories of the ocean will linger on, long after our footprints in the sand are gone." | WILDE FAMILY REUNION MEXICO 2011
Dad arranged a family reunion from July 31 to August 7, 2011 in Playa del Carmen, Mexico | Mom was with us in spirit!
Michele's Family | We were sad that John couldn't come with us
Shane, David, Michele, Matthew | Jenna, Melissa
We sat near the beach volleyball , where Team Wilde had a blast! | Hey Gilligan! | Go Jenna! | Happy | Smiles | We spent a lot of time enjoying the beautiful sand and water.
 Brian's Family
Brian, Janet, Dejah,, Jade and Kyler | Another Day In Paradise
Ek Balam | Our guide Carlos told us many interesting things about these ruins. They were only discovered 14 years ago! | These ruins are from the pre-classic period, where architecture was simpler and the stones weren't as tightly fitted.. Things got more fancy as the people became more wicked and worldly and threw the poor out of the city. | The White God teaching the people | Ugh- They buried their dead under their beds!
There are a bunch of buildings and a fascinating plastered "school "with many interesting carvings. Very Cool! | The water collection system | Here is the ball court where the winners had the dubious honor of being sacrificed!
Sheri's Family | Sheri Connor Dustin Camille
We went to a lady's house for some authentic Mayan food. We had pork, chicken, rice, beans, a vegetable and egg dish and homemade tortillas with all the fixings . She cooked it over a wood fire. It was delicious! | We went to a cenote after lunch- an underground cave with water running into it. The water was "refreshing" and crystal clear and very deep. They had a couple places you could jump into the water. Melissa and Michele braved the lower one, Matt jumped from on high!
We did a quick trip to Coba- we rode bikes back into the site. Coba is from the classic period at the height of the Mayan Civilization..We were too tired to climb up to the top of the ruins though. There was also a ball court arena., and part of a built up road bed can be seen, which extends for several miles. | They had a stele with a picture of what it was. TThe stele on which the 2012 predictions are based is located here..Some archaeologists say it is actually a mapping of the revolution of the milky way.
"A vacation is having nothing to do and all day to do it in." Robert Orben | "Cause we are Sisters..." | Melissa, Nancy, Dejah- some beautiful blonds!
Ouch, Andrea | Now what is this?
Japanese Dinner Night | We went to dinner at a Japanese restaurant. The chef at our table was pretty talented and the food was great!
"Laughter is an instant vacation." | Mark and Andrea
Tulum | Tulum is from the post-classical period.. It flourished until the Spanish came in about the 1500's... It is a fortress on the ocean; most of the food came from the ocean. Very little farming was done. A cool salt shaker was found here in a tomb.
Many similarities have been found in the Mayan architecture and that of King Solomon's Temple
We went out into the ocean and snorkeled around the coral reef.. Then we went to Akumal Bay and looked for turtles and rays. We also went to another cenote and snorkeled with flashlights, but the pictures didn't work out. | Trip
John was in Columbus, Mississippi learning how to fly airplanes for the USAF, so he was unable to be here with us.
The first day there we got involved in some games on the beach- a relay race and tug of war
 Iberostar Tucan
We had 3 fancy meals at the hotel restaurants. We chose Japanese, Italian, and a Steak house. It was a fun reason to dress up and all eat together. We also usually ate together at the buffet tables. What a great way to visit with each other!
Some miscellaneous pictures- Connor singing Karaoke, Kyler feeding fish, everyone gathered around the breakfast table, some of the evening entertainment, some towel art, and the girls all tuckered out!
